It was about hate turning the world into utter darkness.
A lesson that applies today to people of all colors.

The original was, as you say, progressive, but not preachy and extremely well written. Some episodes, such as The Obsolete Man, are chillingly prophetic.
My favorite episode is Time Enough At Last.
