The bankruptcy of the Catalan electronic voting company Scytl is approaching its outcome. The Irish group Paragon will take control of the technology company, after months of negotiations with the bank to find a solution to its liquidation, according to ARA from sources close to the operation. Yesterday was the deadline the judge had given the creditors to reach an agreement on Paragon’s proposal, which, as he advanced The vanguard, was the only offer in this phase. Scytl was dragging a debt of 75 million euros, of which creditors will end up collecting only 3 in return for the brands and licenses that will remain the buyer, say the same voices. The Irish group – which bought 80% of Service Point in 2015 – offers to collect the sum in three deferred payments in 2021, 2022 and 2023. After some attempts to find new revenue in the elections for the private sector and make some changes at the top, Scytl filed for bankruptcy in late 2019. Cryptographic flaws in an electronic voting system proposed for use in Switzerland would allow “undetectable vote manipulation”, security researchers concluded today.
Sarah Jamie Lewis, Olivier Pereira and Vanessa Teague found that the proposed Swiss e-voting system (built by Barcelona-headquarted Scytl) was open to manipulation owing to weaknesses in how encrypted electronic votes are “shuffled” to protect voter privacy.
The vulnerability could, in the worst case, allow “massive and centralized election fraud” cryptography expert Matthew Green noted...
Bizarrely, SwissPost, which was hoping to support elections across the country using the system, said the error was already identified in 2017.
“However, the correction was not made in full by the technology partner Scytl, which is responsible for the source code. Swiss Post regrets this and has asked Scytl to make the correction in full immediately which they have now done.”
Computer Business Review has called and emailed Scytl requesting an explanation. Scytl’s existing systems have been used to manage over 100,000 electoral events electronically across more than 20 countries, including the USA, Mexico, France, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, BiH and India, the company says...
The system tested also assumes a benign actor on the server side of the system, meaning an authority administrating (or a hacker penetrating) one of the system’s servers could manipulate votes whilst maintaining a clean audit trail.
Their paper, “the use of trapdoor commitments in Bayer-Forth proofs and the implications for the verfiability of the Scytl-SwissPost Internet Voting System” concluded: “A malicious administrator or software provider… could manipulate votes but produce a proof transcript that passes verification.”...

Would seizing the Scytl computers be the only way to establish vote tally manipulation?
I don’t think so. For one thing, Dominion stores its data on Amazon cloud, and federal law enforcement could get access to it. The Utah Data Center which, among other things, stores data relating to cybersecurity, can and does process, “all forms of communication, including the complete documents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Internet searches.”
It could have picked up odd happenings between the overseas offices of the big electronic election services. All the ways the data could be accessed is, frankly, a topic beyond my ken...
Are Trump’s lawyers onto something big or not? We’ll have to see. In April of last year, Democratic congressman Raskin, while challenging private voting systems companies, said, “To say that they don’t have any evidence of any wrongdoing is not to say that nothing untoward happened,” Raskin said. “It’s simply to say that we don’t have the evidence of it.”
