Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said in an op-ed on Monday that he hopes President-elect Joe Biden will take “America First” out of the national security strategy for his incoming administration.

Mattis penned the op-ed, titled “Defense in Depth,” for Foreign Affairs with Kori Schake, director of foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, Jim Ellis, a fellow at the Hoover Institution and former commander of U.S. Strategic Command, and Joe Felter, a fellow at the Hoover Institution.

“In January, when President Joe Biden and his national security team begin to reevaluate U.S. foreign policy, we hope they will quickly revise the national security strategy to eliminate ‘America first’ from its contents, restoring in its place the commitment to cooperative security that has served the United States so well for decades,” they wrote. “The best strategy for ensuring safety and prosperity is to buttress American military strength with enhanced civilian tools and a restored network of solid alliances – both necessary to achieving defense in depth.”

The four authors also that the U.S. currently is “undermining the foundations of an international order manifestly advantageous to U.S. interests, reflecting a basic ignorance of the extent to which both robust alliances and international institutions provide vital strategic depth.”

“In practice, ‘America first’ has meant ‘America alone,’” they wrote. “That has damaged the country's ability to address problems before they reach U.S. territory and has thus compounded the danger emergent threats pose.”

They wrote that advocates of the Trump administration’s approach “seem to believe that other countries will have no choice but to accede to the United States’ wishes and cooperate on its terms.”

“This is delusion,” they wrote. “Sovereign countries always have choices: to compromise with aggressors, take actions opposed to U.S. interests, opt out of assistance

Anyone not a warrior that claims “Mad Dog” status is a perfume princess as Mattis was. I hated the guy from the moment he was said to be nominated.

They wrote that advocates of the Trump administration’s approach “seem to believe that other countries will have no choice but to accede to the United States’ wishes and cooperate on its terms.”

“This is delusion,” they wrote. “Sovereign countries always have choices: to compromise with aggressors, take actions opposed to U.S. interests, opt out of assistance when the United States needs it, or cooperate with one another on activities from which the United States is excluded.”

So...do these lunatics provide ACTUAL EXAMPLES examples of where countries did that during the Trump years? Their deep-think "analysis" exists in a total vacuum, which seems to be the sine qua non of the pseudo intellectual class that idiots like Mattis belong to.

What specific policies is Mattis referring to anyway? That important piece of info seems to be totally absent as well. I'm guessing it's Trump making Europe pay more for their defense - but that's just a guess. It's possible he's not talking about anything.

the globalists think they’ve won, & here is your ally Australia - a govt which only got elected because of votes from coal miners/”climate” skeptics in the State of Queensland - basically saying China would be the winner. Cormann is former finance minister, making use of Air Force plane to go around looking for a new job:

23 Nov: Sydney Morning Herald: Biden courted in Cormann’s bid to run ‘the most important organisation you’ve never heard of’
by Bevan Shields
London: Mathias Cormann’s campaign to win a prized role at the heart of global economic policy has been given an important boost after Prime Minister Scott Morrison used his first conversation with US President-elect Joe Biden to push the former finance minister’s candidacy.
American support could prove crucial for Cormann’s bid to become the next secretary-general of the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – a position that would give him serious influence over the world’s post-pandemic economic recovery.

Cormann, a Liberal Party power broker and Australia’s longest-serving finance minister, left the Senate in October to run for the job and is travelling around Europe on a Royal Australian Air Force Falcon jet to rally support. Europe is central to Cormann’s push as it is home to 26 of the OECD’s 38 member countries...

The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age have confirmed Morrison raised Cormann’s campaign during a congratulatory telephone call with Biden following the US presidential election...

While it began as part of the Marshall Plan’s European reconstruction program, the OECD now shapes the global economic agenda...

***A pivot towards the Asia-Pacific as the emerging centre of the global economy is a key part of Cormann’s pitch to European figures...

The climate change test
Cormann’s biggest hurdle is climate change. Many European governments believe Australia’s Coalition government has not done enough and are frustrated it has not explicitly committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
“There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to Australia’s efforts and performance in relation to action on climate change, which when it’s raised, I’m addressing it with objective facts,” Cormann said.
“My message to OECD member countries is that I’m committed to ambitious and effective action on climate change and that under my leadership the OECD would do everything it can, using the tools it has available, to help secure the best outcomes.”...

somehow the fraudulent election needs to be exposed. don’t give up - too much is at stake.

Any military leader that does not place the US of A 1st is a bullsh*t piece of crap that has no business leading others. If Mattis truly said this and actually believes it - he can suck it!

My service goes all the way back to the Revolution - I have proof of that - beyond that, when I enlisted and later was given a direct commission, I knew I had to maintain the honor of what I had accepted and all the men & women before me - their sacrifices and death — would mean nothing if I did not do may part as an officer of the United States of America...

Ladies and Gentlemen, to be here - right now in this time period and seeing everything that has gone down over the last 4 years is absolutely pathetic. It should have never gotten to this point - and the fact hat it has - that Congress has failed the true intention of this Nation - that its leadership is sold out - and their apparently is about HALF of the US that thinks government controlled “Everything” is the solution to the worlds’ problems.

...very dishearten to see this happening now .. but the writing on the wall has been here for quite sometime ... most chose to ignore it ...

America first is a heck of a lot better than America last. Other countries need to do their fair share, and not rip us off. And the cheap labor express needs to quit sending our jobs overseas.

And buying crap from China who is using our dollars to build up their military and finance subversions and bribes in the USA is also not a good idea.

Mattis can go pound sound. spit.

That has damaged the country's ability to address problems before they reach U.S. territory

Because that worked so well in the dark Obama years...

looking back,

Trumps original cabinet choices for major positions was pretty dismal.......

Mattis, Tillerson, and of course Sessions.

and considering how brainwashed the education is in the country, It doesn’t look like Betsy did much of anything (Then again, there is no need for a Dept of Education anyways)

I don't think Mattis has anything to worry about on that score.
