YORBA LINDA — Political commentator Bruce Herschensohn, a longtime fixture on Southern California television and radio, former aide to Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan and Republican candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, has died at the age of 88.
Herschensohn’s death was announced Tuesday by the Richard Nixon Foundation in Yorba Linda. The cause of death was not released.
“One word defines Bruce Herschensohn: patriot,” said Hugh Hewitt, the Nixon Foundation’s president. “A resonant, mellifluous voice for freedom, he was always calm, always insistent on the truth that people needed to be free, wanted to be free and would be free. Though he’s no longer with us, his role as freedom’s champion will live on through his films, his writings and his students.”
Herschensohn was a familiar face on Southern California TV screens in the 1980s and early ’90s, appearing as a political commentator on ABC7, where he filled the conservative half of the station’s “point/counterpoint” segment alongside former Democratic Senator John Tunney. He also served as a commentator for KABC-AM (790) and was a prolific columnist for newspaper opinion pages.

Great guy. Bruce was knowledgeable and a great debater.
He use to eat John Tunny’s lunch regularly on the air. ABC(7)
Los Angeles.
Hate seeing him go.
For those who don’t know, he was a Conservative, and a good
one. I had a lot of respect for him.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. By the mercy of God, may he rest in peace.
Spot on. He was one of the few candidates for any office that I enthusiastically voted FOR, rather than voting for the lesser of two evils. You may remember that it was a last minute smear by the loathsome Boxer that probably cost him the senate seat that Boxer defiled for her entire career.
She beat him by releasing an October Surprise of accusing him of visiting "gentleman's clubs" and reading "adult magazines."

Yes. Someone came in from out of town and wanted to go to
some sort of a semi-off color event. It was mud wrestling
or some such. Bruce’s wife was there as I recall. They
had a few drinks and hung out and left.
I believe that did cost him the election.
It was released about five days before the election.
Some of this may be off a bit, but this is something close
to what took place.
Herschensohn did nothing wrong at all.
He almost beat Boxer.
I bet there was even fraud back then.
I heard him speak at the University of Chicago back in the early 1970’s. Excellent speaker with a fine grasp of the political scene.

Yep I remember Bruce and him destroying Tunny. Now days a conservative won’t see the light of day on Kali. TV short of a big security Team.
I always liked him. Very interesting man.......wow, him and Dr. Williams both leaving us within hours. RIP Gentlemen
Should’ve been Senator instead of that Stalinazi harridan trash Boxer. RIP.
Yup.
Herschensohn was the guy who ran against Barbara Boxer for her first time.

Actually the story was by the Los Angeles Times. I think it was entrapment at the time by a local radio personality who Bruce thought was a “friend”. I think it was a set up.
Bruce and Walter Williams on the same day. We have lost a lot of old-time Patriots over the last few months. Herman Cain, Charlie Daniels... yet evildoers thrive.
Bruce was great. When he lost to Barbara Boxer in the 90’s I viewed that as the last chance for California
Wonderful man..great thinker and orator. He befriended Sonny Bono and advised him during his time as a Congressman. One of the best eulogies ever was that which he gave at Bono’s funeral. A great loss for all...

I think the Democratic operative named Bob Mulholland released that information...I think Barbara Boxer refused to take the responsibility...But, I find it hard to believe that she had no idea about what Mulholland was going to do...
Bob Mulholland was the king of dirty tricks in California politics.
He wasn't a rogue. There wasn't anything that he did that wasn't sanctioned first by the Democrat party.
