Lou Holtz calls Trump ‘greatest president in my lifetime,’ accepts Medal of Freedom

President Trump on Thursday awarded Notre Dame’s legendary former football coach Lou Holtz the Presidential Medal of Freedom — and Holtz reciprocated by hailing Trump as the “greatest president during my lifetime.”

Holtz, 83, received the nation’s highest civilian honor in the Oval Office.

“Wherever Lou went, football glory followed,” Trump said.

“‘I never coached football, I coached life,’ he said.”

A tightly packed group of invited guests chanted, “Lou! Lou!”

“I want to assure you how proud I am, not only to receive the award — I’m even prouder to receive it from President Donald Trump, who I think was the greatest president during my lifetime,” Holtz gushed.

“Holtz earned an outstanding 100-30-2 record in 11 seasons at the University of Notre Dame,” the White House said in its Wednesday release. “His 1988 team earned a perfect 12-0 record and were crowned national champions.”

Holtz held coaching positions from the early 1960s through early 2000s at other schools, including the University of South Carolina, the University of Arkansas and the College of William and Mary.

He spoke at the Republican National Convention in August and called Trump a “consistent winner.”

“In President Trump, we have a president we can trust, who works hard at making America greater and who genuinely cares about people,” Holtz said. “If I apply this test to Joe Biden, I can’t say ‘Yes’ to any of these three questions.”

Notre Dame distanced itself from Holtz’s vocal support for Trump.

University president John Jenkins said that “his use of the University’s name at the Republican National Convention must not be taken to imply that the University endorses his views, any candidate or any political party.”

ESPN will disown him for such ‘blasphemy’.

Holtz is a true patriot!

“Was?”

He’s 83. Give him a break and enjoy it.

Next week he will come out against Trump. As soon as the chi-com infested democrat party threaten him and his family he will change his tune. Seriously folks! This nation has never been in a more precarious position and unless we take drastic measures to keep Biden out of the White House we may as well just prepare to become West China! So get up off you lazy republican arses and get involved.

As an example of the kind of man Holtz is, when he coached at Arkansas, the Razorbacks had defeated TCU for 22 straight years (1959-1980). Then in 1981, TCU finall broke their streak playing in Fort Worth. After the game, Holtz followed TCU players to their dressin room and asked TCU’s coach if he could address the team. When granted permission, Holtz spent around 10-minutes complementing them and pointed out the value of their determination and hard work. He’s an exceptional man, indeed.

"greatest president during my lifetime.”

Nice ceremony and compliment.

I would add he's one of the greatest presidents ever.

He is trying to save the republic for us.

He didn't need to do this (He's a billionaire, had good life exc...).

And he's had to deal with nothing but hatred from the left, monstrous betrayal from the right, and plain evil, because of undertaking this Herculean task (saving the USA).

God bless Donald J. Trump and his family.

That’s pretty heavy of Lou. He has been through a lot of presidents in his 83 years.

Little known fact: Lou Holtz was an assistant coach at UConn. A few of the assistant coaches went on to coach college or in the NFL.
