how interesting, I looked up options to drive and take the last leg into the city via public transportation to catch up to a METRO stop.

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE)website is up and running, but the schedule link come up with a 404 unavailable code.

There wouldn’t happen to be a coordinated “difficulty” to access public transportation on that particular day, would there? I’m sure this is just a coincidence...

The metro could be shut down. Planes could be cancelled.
Driving is probably the best way to get there. I made a hotel reservation in D.C. before I realized I probably won’t fly. The best route is probably drive, have hotel in Virginia, march by foot en masse across the river to D.C.

Expect DC, VA and MD to go hard lockdown because of “Covid”. Be prepared to find alternative accommodations and transportation, potentially last minute. Same goes for flights.
