Wealth and power are the greatest aphrodisiacs for a guy. Evolution has programmed women to be attracted to those qualities in a male.
My wife and I know a lady (mid-40s) of middle class background who is very attractive, competent in a good paying job, and has managed to raise three daughters on her own but who picks the worst losers to marry.
She has been married and divorced three times now. All of them losers. The first was a drug addict who eventually went to prison for a long time for dealing. The second was to her church pastor who beat her and put her in the hospital once, who eventually went to jail for fraud.
Then her last husband, was a narcissist who was extremely jealous, who brow beater her and then physically beat her. Forced her to stay home with no money of her own or freedom from him. He eventually squandered their money, lost their home and went to jail for drug trafficking.
Currently, she is supporting herself in a good paying job and lives by herself with her youngest daughter. She has not rebounded to another loser yet and I have advised her to wait and not get married again for a while. She deserves a good guy with a good job, his own home and a stable lifestyle. But I am afraid she just is attracted to the bad boys and can't see the good ones out there.
