To make electric cars viable for the masses it's going to require two things: A breakthrough in battery technology, and a bunch of nuclear power plants to cleanly generate the electricity. Generating the electricity with coal or natural gas just shifts the location of the pollution. Hydroelectric is tapped out, we've dammed up every river we can for power. Solar and wind are niches that make the environmental nuts tingle but don't help much.

We currently don't have the battery technology, and the environmental nuts won't let us build more nuke plants which is stupid because they're the only viable source of clean power we have. Somebody that really cared about the environment would be pushing for more nuclear.

The rivers in my area had dams removed to bring the areas back to pristine. And to save the fish. So we buy hydro from Canada. A China client. Arent we cute?

The future of nuclear is Enhanced Coulomb Repulsion. Google spent $10M on it and has filed several patents.
