Six Babies Born Alive After Botched Abortions in Texas Last Year, May Have Been Left to Die

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating a new report that six babies were born alive in botched abortions in 2019 in his state.

Paxton’s office promised to investigate the shocking findings revealed in the new Texas Health and Human Services 2019 abortion report, which was released Dec. 23.

According to the report, six babies were born alive in botched abortions in 2019 in Texas. The number is included in the part of the report that lists abortion complications reported by physicians and/or abortion facilities in Texas.

“In response to today’s report noting several infants were ‘born alive’ after failed abortion attempts in Texas: My office will investigate this matter to the fullest extent of the law,” the Texas Attorney General’s office announced on Twitter last week.

The health department report does not provide any details about the babies who were born alive. It is not clear if any were old enough to be viable outside the womb, if any are still alive or if any received appropriate medical care as is required by law.

According to the report, eight unborn babies between 21 and 25 weeks of pregnancy (meaning they potentially were viable outside the womb) were aborted in 2019 in Texas. However, it is not clear if any of these babies were the abortion survivors.

In 2019, the Texas legislature passed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act to protect newborns from infanticide in such cases. The law requires that basic, life-saving medical care be provided to babies who are born alive in failed abortion attempts. It also created penalties for abortionists who fail to provide basic medical care to these newborns.

State Rep. Jeff Leach, a pro-life Republican who sponsored the law, called for an investigation immediately after the report came out last week.

“… that there have been multiple infants in recent years who were ‘born alive’ following botched abortion attempts should shock the collective conscience of the Lone Star State,” Leach responded last week. “I call on the Texas Attorney General and the appropriate law enforcement agencies, with the full weight and force of Texas law, to investigate and unleash holy hell on those responsible for these heinous crimes.”

Babies do survive abortions, and there is evidence of their survivals from all across the world. In America, most states do not keep track of abortion survivors, but a few do. Between 2016 and 2018, three states reported 40 babies were born alive after botched abortions. According to their state health data, 11 babies were born alive in Minnesota, 10 in Arizona and 19 in Florida.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, as well as the personal testimonies of nurses and abortion survivors themselves, also provide evidence that babies survive abortions. According to the CDC, at least 143 babies were born alive after botched abortions between 2003 and 2014 in the U.S., though there likely are more.

In Canada in 2018, the Canadian Institute of Health Information recorded 766 late-term, live-birth abortions over a five-year period. And in Australia, the country’s health minister admitted that 27 babies survived abortions in the state of Western Australia between 1999 and 2016. A report out of Ireland in November also suggests babies are surviving abortions there.

However, some Democrat politicians have denied the evidence and refused to support laws to protect newborns from infanticide. In 2019, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrat representatives blocked a federal bill to protect newborn abortion survivors more than 80 times.

National polling shows Americans — including people who are “pro-choice” on abortion — oppose abortions up to birth and infanticide. Doctors say late-term abortions are never needed to protect a woman’s health, and some women admit to having late-term abortions for purely elective reasons.

Safe Legal Rare is a lie.

Planned Parenthood and other non-”back alley” abortion clinics regularly botch abortions, they fight legislation to require such clinics to have the ability to get these women and girls to a hospital when something goes wrong, they fight anything that would draw attention to their botched abortions (including hanging up on 911 dispatchers)...
