I met a guy who was the caretaker on a 5,000sq ft winter home for a shipping magnate. He gave me a tour of the house. Had a home theatre room, a nice dining hall, and a fairly nice decor. He got to live on the property rent free and had a stipend for upkeep.

That seems to be better deal, upkeeping a real house.
That way you get all the modern facilities.
In museum you get a little bit space for yourself and rest is really the museum, you cannot touch too much at all, and the facilities are outdated.

Some of the mansions have servant quarters. Those servants have in most cases free lodging, and the use of the whole house, if the masters are away. You may have the house for yourself free, but I would not call it great deal!

I remember looking for job in RI. I was dressed for success and had some time so I drew around and there was an open house. Huge! I went in and checked it. Did not like it at all. Leaving, the realtor asked me about what I think. I had no better idea, than to tell him, that this is to big for me. One would need a maid to keep it up.
The woman next to the realtor (I guess the seller) looked at me with disdain and said: “You do not have a maid!?”
Kind of like, how low life you are, that you cannot afford a maid! Oligarch.
