FLASHBACK : Gab Just Became Resilient In A Big Way
Gab ^ | September 30 2020 | Andre Torba

Posted on 01/16/2021 12:02:26 PM PST by SmokingJoe

Today is a tremendous milestone for the Gab community. After over a year of work Gab is finally migrated to our own in-house servers. If you talk to anyone in the technology industry they will tell you that this is no easy task. Most technology startups have the luxury of using third-party cloud hosting providers like Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and others.

Gab does not have this luxury.

Over the past four years we have been banned from multiple cloud hosting providers and were told that if we didn't like it we should “build our own.”

So, that's exactly what we did.

Gab isn't just building an alternative social network. We're building an alternative internet. From hosting infrastructure to web browsing and more: Gab is the market leader when it comes to defending free speech against Silicon Valley tyranny online.

For a typical Gab user our new infrastructure means a noticeable improvement on site performance and speed that will scale as Gab continues to grow.

Today's accomplishment is only possible because of people like you.

Gab is 100% funded by our community of people, not big corporate sponsors. On Gab you are the customer, not the product being sold. We'd like to send a special thank you to our donors, investors, and GabPRO customers who made today possible. Thank you also to our team of engineers behind the scenes who worked tirelessly for over a year to make this happen.

The war for free speech on the internet has only just begun, but today a big battle was won.

God bless,

Andrew Torba
CEO, Gab.com

It's surprising John Matze (Founder of Parler) didn't pay too much attention to what Gab was doing. If they could do it it Gab, they'd do it to any conservative outlet.
The funny thing is, its not that hard to install your own servers and routers etc. People use the AWS cloud services etc out of sheer convenience and to some extent, laziness. Conservatives cannot afford to put their fate in the hands of outfits like AWS.
Meanwhile, Gab has now developed its own very good browser called “Dissenter” (Meet the Free Speech Web Browser). It's based on Brave. You can download it here:

https://dissenter.com/

In addition, Gab is now hosting internet infrastructure. Maybe Parler could have a chat with Andrew Torba.

i’ve not kept up but whomever gets Trump on their site, that’s all she wrote.

I like that Gab was proactive.

Still very hard to get on but I am patient.

Expand GAB’s network and Parler can run on their platform. Competition maybe, but it’s healthy competition.

I used to be able to access Gab without having to accept their cookies. Alas, that’s no longer possible. Too bad! Similarly, the recently redesigned Infowars site crashes my device if cookies are rejected. I’ve deleted both sites’ bookmarks.

Well looks like CEO of Parler was not that smart. He was reactive rather than proactive.

Maybe Gab can be Parler's service provider.

Question. I haven't been on Gab yet. Is Gab similar to Facebook or is it similar to Twitter and Parler?

It's was hard to get on Gab for a week or so, when they gained huge numbers of new users and had a massive increase in web traffic, but they have essentially overcame that problem now.

Sweet. In trying to control Gab, the left lost control of them.

Yes, I know. I can get to the site, but without accepting their tracking cookies I can’t get past the “checking your browser” page.

Yup.
Just like AWS hosts businesses which are in direct competition with Amazon.

A spokesperson for Parler mentioned they were suffering from DNS blackouts in addition to other insidious forms of censorship.

The platform, centralized or distributed, is the easy part. Overcoming the restrictions related to telecom/ISP, name registry/resolution, and cert validation are far more complex and difficult to work around.

He’s a young man that just wanted to enter the Social fray. He’s now running for his life — literally.

Gab lost momentum to Parler because, I presume, Gab was banned from the Apple and Google app stores but Parler was still there. Now Parler was banned too and Gab is poised to make a big resurgence. Good for them, the more services we have that aren’t evil supporters of fascism the better. I hope Parler is able to bounce back but their lawsuit against Amazon suggests that they are far from being able to.

Wow --> "Over the past four years we have been banned from multiple cloud hosting providers and were told that if we didn't like it we should “build our own.”

I had no idea that they've been banned by multiple cloud companies over the past FOUR years.

Torba posts his devotion to Christ. The Christian thing to do would be to throw Parler a lifeline.

United, even as competitors, they stand a better chance of surviving.

Hindsight being 20/20, Gab is straining as it is to keep up with new members. If Trump had joined it would have been a fiasco.

But happy to say they are overall catching up with their growth. Once we reach a certain point then it could handle Trump!

Try Gab again today. They’ve done something & things are working better today.

As long as Gab is willing to allow their worst users to thrive, Donny won’t show up.

Horrible the way the CEO’s family was threatened. Their security was compromised btw. Not just a simple threat.
