I’m not sure they’re praising the firing. They’re just pointing out that speech codes have infected academia to the point that stating right-wing opinions about race are now grounds for overriding the protection of academic tenure. I can’t get all that worked up about it, since I think academic tenure is bunk, and a thinly-veiled teacher’s boondoggle meant to mirror the UAW’s enviable job protections. But it’s clear that blasphemy codes have migrated from the religious sphere to its secular counterpart.
