If you want to understand the present moment, especially how similar Wokeness seems to Mao's Cultural Revolution, you have to understand the Italian communist Antonio Gramsci. Gramsci wrote a series of essays and books while imprisoned by the Italian fascists in the 1920s and 1930s that are referred to as his Prison Notebooks. These are the birthplace of Cultural Marxism, which James Lindsay argues has evolved into "Identity Marxism" since. Once you understand Gramsci, you can easily understand what is going on with our society at present and understand more clearly than ever why it must be resisted.
Though he didn't coin the term, the idea fellow communist Rudi Dutschke would name "the long march through the institutions" in 1967 is ultimately Gramsci's roadmap to getting communism to take hold in the West. Gramsci identifies that the "cultural hegemony" of Western cultures prevented communism from having any chance of taking root, so he recommended a strategy that seeks to tear apart and capture major cultural institutions, including religion, family, education, media, and law. Mao understood this clearly and used it to devastating effect. The same thing is happening throughout the West today. is there any path forward, except to do exactly what they did? It will take a while and perhaps is not doable. But I don’t see any path forward except slipping into institutions as the left falters, destroys and kills each other. But we will have to be sly as serpents. We will also need to capture cultural REALMS by creating alternate institutions.
I’ve been saying that for years. All the conservatives that keep whining that Hollywood is evil and I won’t have anything to do with it, humanities PhDs are a waste of time and not productive etc...where has that lead? We lost the culture that’s where. Get involved.

The tricky part is going to be timing. At present there are three forces at work, all of which have an express interest in destroying the Judeo-Christian roots of western civilization. In no particular order they are:
1. Chinese global hegemonists who see global communism as the means of fulfilling Chinese destiny to rule the world.
2. Islamists who believe global dominion is the will of Allah
3. Western corporate globalists who push an elitist vision of a fascistic union of government and industry
All three forces are currently united, working to the same goal, but all have the expectation that they will come out on top of the rubble to rebuild in their image.
The political right is not good at divide and conquer. If we were, the disparate amalgam that has constituted the democrat party for decades could have been put at each others' throats years ago. The sooner we can begin to pit the above groups against one another, the better our chances of survival.
A positive is that the modern Left has their own assimilability to be divided and conquered built in. That’s what happens when you balkanize into countless Identity groups.
I agree completely. The downside is that thus far, the right has done little to nothing to exploit their internal divides.
That’s because most of those we elected to oppose them are actually in on it.

What’s needed is an articulate spokesman to outline this stuff. Someone like Ben Sasse at least in terms of communication skills.
It’s been 30 years since I’ve read “The Keys of this Blood” by Malachi Martin but I think that was the first time that I got a sense for just how influential Gramsci was in shaping where the west (and its relationship to the east) is now. As the reviewer at the following link said, Gramsci’s revision of Marxism haunts both east and west and his subtle strategy was to “Marxize the inner man so that the west would adopt not merely a non-Christian mind but an anti-Christian mind” (p. 250).
Ben Sasse is a New World Order stooge, he wants what they are doing.
Whatever difference there are with him on smaller points, I don’t think he wants a Leninist reprogramming of western civilization.
Take off the blinders.
