As soon as Donald Trump entered office, he set to work toughening up our border security situation and making it harder for illegal aliens to enter (and remain in) the United States. Last year, after the pandemic arrived, he took the additional step of instituting a zero-tolerance policy for illegal border crossings, with the perpetrators being immediately sent back to Mexico without waiting for a hearing. Of course, now that President Joe “Open Borders” Biden is in charge, things had to change. Biden’s acting Attorney General released an announcement this week that the zero-tolerance policy is ending. Moving forward, we’re to return to “judging perpetrators” on a case by case basis with compassion. (Associated Press)
The Justice Department rescinded a Trump-era memo that established a “zero tolerance” enforcement policy for migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally, which resulted in thousands of family separations.Acting Attorney General Monty Wilkinson issued the new memo to federal prosecutors across the nation on Tuesday, saying the department would return to its longstanding previous policy and instructing prosecutors to act on the merits of individual cases.
“Consistent with this longstanding principle of making individualized assessments in criminal cases, I am rescinding — effective immediately — the policy directive,” Wilkinson wrote.
What Wilkinson is actually talking about here is selective enforcement, which works alright for minor traffic violations, but not securing the border. It remains illegal to cross the border of the United States without the proper paperwork and permissions unless you are a citizen. If CBP finds someone crawling under the fence and they turn out to be an American citizen with proper identification who was simply lost, that’s easy to sort out quickly and send them on their way. The same goes for tourists with the appropriate visa or other documentation. (Though you’re really only supposed to enter at one of the designated border crossing points.)
If the person turns out to not have any valid claim to enter the country, there isn’t much of a discussion to be engaged in regarding “the merits of the individual case.” If the person is crossing illegally, they’ve broken the law and we have established rules for how to handle them. Under zero-tolerance, they could simply be loaded on a bus and sent back to Mexico. Without it, you can arrest them, charge them, and take them to court before deporting them.
The obvious indication from Wilkinson is that some people are breaking the law less than others, perhaps when it’s a family unit or they have children with them. It sounds like we may be enforcing the law against single men (in some cases) but everyone else gets a pass. This is nothing short of dereliction of duty. Both the President and the Attorney General have taken a vow to protect and defend the Constitution and uphold the laws of the land. That includes our immigration laws.
But hey… what’s the big deal, right? You enforce this law, you perhaps don’t enforce that one quite so much. Who’s going to notice, after all? Heck, while we’re at it, why don’t you just appropriate some money and start tearing down the existing sections of the border wall?
Holy cow. What am I saying? I shouldn’t be giving these people ideas.
The new policy is Zero Enforcement.
Face it we have no border.
We don’t have a country. But we’re supposed to defend this one because?
Fundamentally turning the US into a fascist hellhole could be the border crossing deterrent that will work for Chairman BiXiden.
All we can hope for at this point is that Americans are appalled enough to vote these commie SOBs out of office in 2022. We need to make sure Americans have some solid conservatives to vote for as the lesser of two evils. Jim Jordan for Ohio Senate for example.
Lol. Voting. Yea, that’s the ticket.
It’s either that or not voting. I’m not 100% sure which would be more effective at this point to be honest. If I end up[ paying 25 grand in firearms taxes, I’m not voting for anyone unless they promise that I will be paid back every dime. That much I know.
American citizens are at the bottom of the Democrat totem pole.
I’m not paying them a dime for my weapons. Send the SWAT Team.
Better send 2.
No, I shouldn’t have to die like that. I’ll pay it and I won’t vote for anyone unless they swear that they will make it their highest priority to pay me back and, for that matter, I want compensated for the time and trouble of filling out the paperwork so I want $250 for every $200 tax stamp I am forced to purchase and I want it to come out of the budget, not get added to the debt.
Oh, you’ve still got your firearms? I haven’t replaced mine after that boating mishap I had last year.
Life ain’t all that great anyway.
Let’s roll!
What are firearms? Is that a spell in Dungeons and Dragons?
if it was just me I was worried about, I’d agree 100%.
I understand. My wife is preparing to be a widow. She knows the guns are my line.
Adios America.
So if this clown isn’t going to protect the border or enforce the immigration laws when do we need ICE, the INS and the Border Patrol?
If you wait until the wolf is at your door, you waited too long. Your family will no longer have a defense.
The Latest: Mexico hits another record for COVID-19 cases
By The Associated Press Jan 15, 2021 Updated Jan 15, 2021
Mexico posted a record spike in coronavirus cases on Friday, with 21,366 newly confirmed infections, about double the daily rate of increase just a week ago. The country also recorded 1,106 more deaths.
It was unclear if the spike was due to the presence of the U.K. virus variant, of which only one case has so far been confirmed in a visiting British citizen.
The country has now seen almost 1.61 million total infections and has seen registered over 139,000 deaths so far in the pandemic.
The country’s extremely low testing rate means that is an undercount, and official estimates suggest the real death toll is closer to 195,000. So little testing is done that 8% of all those who got a test later died during recent weeks; normally, only people with severe symptoms are tested.
You’re not going to pay 25 grand in firearms taxes because they don’t know what you own.
Think about it: 400 million firearms and federal laws against registration (using 4473’s won’t cut it).
Either they interrogate citizens with “Do you own any guns!!?” (uh, no, officer) or they start searching door to door.
This isn’t f***ing Britain or Ozzie land.
