Despite Weakened Economy, Illegal Immigrants Continue Flocking to the United States
Townhall.com ^ | January 30, 2021 | Spencer Raley

Over the past 10 months, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely hampered what was previously a period of record economic growth in the United States. Tens of millions of Americans lost their jobs as businesses were closed to slow the spread of the virus. And, while the economy continues to recover, unemployment is still nearly double what it was this time last year.

Along with the economic impacts, COVID-19 has also slowed the overall pace of immigration into the United States. In January of 2020, the federal government declared the novel coronavirus to be a public health emergency and restricted travel from China. This was a move that many Democrats (including then-candidate Joe Biden) called “xenophobic.” As the pandemic worsened, these restrictions were expanded to cover many other countries, including the entirety of Europe. Finally, certain guest worker programs and other visa categories were either frozen or severely restricted to protect American workers throughout the duration of the pandemic.

However, despite the lower-than-usual number of lawful migrants entering the country, illegal immigration continues to be a serious problem. According to a new report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the illegal alien population in the United States increased by approximately 200,000 to a total of 14.5 million. The study also indicates that these new illegal aliens impose a net fiscal burden of nearly $2 billion per year on the nation, raising the total cost of illegal immigration to at least $133 billion annually.

While these totals are lower than pre-coronavirus projections, it shows that large numbers of illegal aliens continue to enter the country and compete for jobs that American citizens desperately need right now. Unauthorized migrants typically work in industries such as construction, agriculture, and the service industry. These sectors were especially hard-hit by the pandemic, with all of them experiencing unemployment rate increases higher than the rest of the country.

Several primary factors contribute to the recent growth of the illegal alien population, including:

Additionally, candidate and now President Joe Biden’s promise of mass amnesty is spurring additional illegal immigration. Indeed, apprehensions along the southern border are up more than 80 percent compared to this time last year, and there was a noticeable spike soon after he started making campaign promises to freeze deportations and offer mass amnesty.

During a time when the American worker desperately needs protection, President Biden is intentionally harming those he swore an oath to protect. His administration has opted for policies that deliberately place the interests of illegal aliens above the millions of citizens who are in desperate need of gainful employment.

What the United States needs right now is an “Americans first” initiative that focuses on restoring jobs to U.S. citizens and prioritizing their needs. That starts with cutting off the incentives that attract illegal immigration, not piling on more. And it requires robust enforcement of our immigration laws, not a proclamation that they will intentionally be neglected. Without true immigration reform, illegal aliens will continue to flock into the United States, and it will take even longer for both American citizens and lawful migrants to recover from the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As Rush said the other day: Despite there being proof of mass voter fraud, there are still tens of millions of people that willingly voted for Bide.

They should be held accountable for the actions of their choice for POTUS.

Right, and the government/business cabal doesn’t want workers - it wants CONSUMERS.

Many of the small businesses in my town, and HALF the public schools, would be closed without illegal immigrants. The school districts around me in NJ are only allowed to verify someone lives within the district - not that they are allowed to even be in this country...

What the United States needs right now is an “Americans first” initiative that focuses on restoring jobs to U.S. citizens and prioritizing their needs.

It really is more basic than that. What the United States needs right now is to be American. It applies to everything and everyone, even those that have had families live in America for generations that do not embrace the essence of being American.

Americans do not need an initiative that focuses on restoring jobs and prioritizing their needs. Americans just need to be left alone by government to be American. About the only thing government should be doing is protecting our border, deporting illegals and keeping foreigners from buying American businesses and property. That could be done quite silently and we would prosper.

Every illegal from Mexico or south of Mexico could be a walking Covid 19 time bomb!

The Latest: Mexico hits another record for COVID-19 cases

By The Associated Press Jan 15, 2021 Updated Jan 15, 2021

Mexico posted a record spike in coronavirus cases on Friday, with 21,366 newly confirmed infections, about double the daily rate of increase just a week ago. The country also recorded 1,106 more deaths.

It was unclear if the spike was due to the presence of the U.K. virus variant, of which only one case has so far been confirmed in a visiting British citizen.

The country has now seen almost 1.61 million total infections and has seen registered over 139,000 deaths so far in the pandemic.

The country’s extremely low testing rate means that is an undercount, and official estimates suggest the real death toll is closer to 195,000. So little testing is done that 8% of all those who got a test later died during recent weeks; normally, only people with severe symptoms are tested.

While Biden and the Democrat Killers are welcoming millions of illegal Mexicans, Canada is doing the following re Covid 19” Mexico:

Canada to quarantine travelers, suspend flights south!
Justin Trudeau said travelers will need quarantine up to 3 days in hotel at their own expense

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced stricter restrictions on travelers in response to new, likely more contagious variants of the novel coronavirus — including making it mandatory for travelers to quarantine in a hotel at their own expense when they arrive in Canada and suspending airline service to Mexico and all Caribbean destinations until April 30.

Trudeau said in addition to the pre-boarding test Canada already requires, the government will be introducing mandatory PCR testing at the airport for people returning to Canada.

“Travelers will then have to wait for up to three days at an approved hotel for their test results, at their own expense, which is expected to be more than $2,000,” Trudeau said.

Cockroaches. Interested only in collecting welfare.

Not all, and probably not most. They shouldn't be here. It is illegal. It should remain illegal. But, many come here for work and opportunities that they can't get in their corrupt countries.

The Democrats want them here as future voters

You are 100% correct.

They need to fix their own countries and yeas, the great majority of them have figured out the welfare system in this country and that’s why they call it ‘’paradiso’’, ‘’paradise’’.

They can’t believe a system like this exists. Where they don’t have to work and they still get paid.

...the great majority of them have figured out the welfare system...

I suppose it comes down to what you are calling the "welfare system." If you are referring to direct payments, I think you are wrong.

If you mean that they come here to work, but also for free schooling, housing assistance, medical care, child care, and tons of other social services, then yeah.

Who's fault is that? I'd say 75% of the fault goes to liberals that give them all of this and pay for it with our tax dollars.

This is not to say that a portion don't come here to free load and commit crime.

You ever been to Honduras?
You ever been to Guatemala?
How about Tijuana?
Is it any wonder folks want to come here?
Maybe give their babies a better life?
Problem is they bring their lower standards with them, same way folks getting the hell out of N.Y. bring their liberal crappola here with them to Florida.
