Trump might knife the GOP with his lunatic impeachment defense
Washington Examiner ^ | February 1, 2021 | Tiana Lowe

Even as a mere Florida man, former President Donald Trump sure looks as if he's trying to knife the Republican Party.

On Saturday morning, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the House's resident anti-Semitic QAnon conspiracy theorist, boasted that she had shared a call with the supportive former president. By evening, news emerged that Trump's legal team had resigned barely 48 hours before his first response to the article of impeachment is due and a little more than a week before the Senate trial begins. The reason: Trump wants to present the one defense that would render it political suicide to acquit him.

Trump could argue that despite inviting his fans to Washington, D.C., during a pandemic and telling them he would lead them to the Capitol to "stop the steal," his aside that they ought to do so "peacefully and patriotically" shows he was not trying to incite violence. As a matter of process, he could also argue that the trial itself is illegitimate because he is now out of office — a position that 45 out of 50 Republican senators agree on. Either of these arguments might be weak, but both are at least something.

But no. Instead, to defend himself from the charge that he incited an insurrection at the Capitol, Trump reportedly wants to claim the election really was stolen from him. As one may notice, this is not a defense against incitement but rather a justification for it.

The Republican Party has carefully avoided defending Trump on the merits of his actions — even Trump's most loyal supporters. Sen. Rand Paul did him a big favor by forcing a vote on the constitutionality of a post-presidential impeachment trial. That has essentially locked 45 senators into acquittal on constitutional grounds.

The election actually WAS stolen from him - so there's that.

And ever single GOP pol who failed to support fighting this dirty election SHOULD be "knifed." That's what they did to us... and left us on the side of the road.

I'm in Florida. Byron Daniels (R-FL) and Santorum earned my vote. Rubio and Scott will never get it again.

The whole Senate circus is unconstitutional. If Trump uses the event to show the world his supporter’s view of how the election was illegally conducted, he loses nothing except some time, effort and money for lawyers. If they convict him and try to bar him from future activities , the SC will not uphold it. Trump has bet big before, he has lost before, and he will proceed as he wants to, regardless of threats from his own party. In the end, everyone involved with this absurdity will have to publicly make a stand.

The GOP needs to be knifed.

They have spent the last 30 years importing a permanent Democrat majority because we would not vote to subsume our country to the New World Order so they are importing people who would.

She is being targeted by the Establishment and their Weapon of Mass Destruction against opponents is the “Anti-Semite” smear.

They even tried it on President Trump and for a guy who’s grandchildren are Jewish to have that dumped on him.

Heck I remember that the CBS Evening News said Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater’s visit to a military friend in Germany back in 1964 where he talked about “the good old days” was actually admiration for Nazi Germany.

“Goldwater”

His ancestry is Jewish the Goldwaters emigrated from Russia.

The article is riddled with the author’s unsubstantiated personal opinions. But that’s no surprise. That’s just how today’s “journalists” roll.

I think Trump thinks it more important to get his evidence out there, in a way it can’t be ignored.

If any Republicans in the Senate join with Democrats to convict, then it’s time to rid the GOP of the GOP-E.

I always love it when the Israel hating, Torah hating, God hating media describe someone as antisemitic.
