Austin Orders Military Stand Down to Address Challenge of Extremism in the Ranks (DOD release)
Department of Defense ^ | JIM GARAMONE, DOD NEWS

Posted on 02/03/2021 4:30:45 PM PST by RoosterRedux

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has ordered a DOD-wide stand down to discuss the problem of extremism in the ranks, Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said today. Austin and Army Gen. Mark A, Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with service civilian leaders and service chiefs to discuss the problem of extremism. Kirby noted that some of the extremists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 were active duty service members and others were military veterans.

Kirby was quick to say that "the vast majority of men and women who serve in uniform and the military are doing so with honor, integrity and character, and do not espouse the sorts of beliefs that lead to the kind of conduct that can be so detrimental to good order and discipline and in fact is criminal."

Still, Austin said in the meeting with military leaders that while the numbers may be small, they are not as small as anyone would like. "No matter what it is, it is … not an insignificant problem and has to be addressed," Kirby said during a press gaggle in the Pentagon.

The stand down will occur over the next 60 days, Kirby said. This is so "each service, each command and each unit can take the time out to have these needed discussions with the men and women of the force," he said.

There is much that needs to be hammered out including the details of the training that will go along with the stand down and what the secretary and all in the military want to accomplish. The stand down is similar to safety stand downs that units may have, Kirby said.

Austin called extremism in the ranks a leadership issue, and "it's got to be a leadership issue down to the lowest levels, small unit leadership all the way up to him," Kirby said. "So if you consider it a leadership issue, then maybe there will be some potential solutions there to allow us greater visibility."

This is a thorny problem, one that has raised its head in the past. There is a DOD Instruction aimed at this very problem — DODI 1325.06 "Handling Dissident and Protest Activities Among Members of the Armed Forces."

The DOD Instruction expressly prohibits military personnel from actively advocating for and participating in supremacist, extremist or criminal gang doctrine, ideology or causes, Kirby said.

There are questions that need to be answered, like what constitutes extremist activity? What is permissible in looking for extremists in the ranks?

In the meeting today, Austin made it clear that he is still mulling over how he wants to organize the effort to attack the problem from an institutional perspective, the press secretary said.

The secretary may establish a task force to get after the problem or perhaps another way. "He hasn't ruled anything in or out," Kirby said.

That was General Chappie James, of the duo Blackman and Robin, two of the best F-4 pilots in the USAF. Robin being General Robin Olds. The two developed tactics to get the jump on North Vietnamese MiG-21s.

Ah, stand by for struggle sessions and reeducation. No doubt they'll get communist trainers because the military has a long established habit of hiring far left wingnuts to teach their regular courses. They should use the time to have experienced war vets train them in the basics, such as how not to get captured by Iranians in speedboats.

Received my commission as a 2Lt. from the hand of Chappie and later worked under his command in NORAD. He was a great man and great patriot . . . leadership now . . . not so much.

s this moron aware it’s an all volunteer military? You insult their integrity and actually expect they will re-up?

Unless the goal is to weaken the military. Then you might be inclined to actively bring in transgenders while driving out warriors and denigrating the newest branch of the military. Oh, look! That's exactly what the regime of the fake phony fraud of the United States (FPFOTUS) is doing.

“I’m wondering where Biden will have our next war.”

Syria.

Hell he sent troops in within 24 hours of taking his fraudulent oath.

They’re going to go after the Oath Keepers... can’t have anyone around who sincerely swears to defend the constitution when the politicians consider that extreme.

General Walker, head of the federalized and somewhat Marshallized to make arrests NG in DC told us (on GMA) that Milley is in control. So, the ‘Rats can do as much wrong as they want to the Constitution, the more they do the deeper the hole they dig.

For themselves to eventually occupy.

So we patriots really have no one in the government to defend our rights. Not even the military.

To be fair, that's largely been true since Obama was in office. Barack did a major purge of the officer ranks and instilled officers that were more 'political animal' than 'military leader'.

Trump's issue, is that we was too busy fighting enemies on all sides; especially from inside his own administration, and other Republicans, that he didn't get a chance to correct the ills within the military. Some progress was made, not not enough.

Took the oath. Twice. Once Navy, once Justice Dept Immigration Officer. Did all I was supposed to do. Loved it. Learned a lot. Protected my country. Left both under honorable conditions. My oath did not expire. I have yet to stand down. And I’m not alone.

Whatever side enriches Comrade Joe Biden and his lackeys the most.

no it's not. If anyone can fix this mess it will be the military. By firing Mark A, Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff it would delay any military action that I believe is likely to take place.

Myanmar Nov election had Dominion systems and was over turned by their military. our DNI, DHS and others has already made reports we had major problems with foreign interference in our election.

It's only a matter of when not if our military acts.

This sort of s**t didn’t work well for the Red Army when it purged itself in 1937, and was still not rectified by the time of Operation Barbarossa, to the tune of millions of unnecessary Soviet casualties....

I wish I was in your shoes. Not sure exactly what you do. Though you might be playing maybe the biggest role our country has ever seen soon. (My estimation early March)
