Austin Orders Military Stand Down to Address Challenge of Extremism in the Ranks (DOD release)
Department of Defense ^ | JIM GARAMONE, DOD NEWS

Posted on 02/03/2021 4:30:45 PM PST by RoosterRedux

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III has ordered a DOD-wide stand down to discuss the problem of extremism in the ranks, Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said today. Austin and Army Gen. Mark A, Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, met with service civilian leaders and service chiefs to discuss the problem of extremism. Kirby noted that some of the extremists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6 were active duty service members and others were military veterans.

Kirby was quick to say that "the vast majority of men and women who serve in uniform and the military are doing so with honor, integrity and character, and do not espouse the sorts of beliefs that lead to the kind of conduct that can be so detrimental to good order and discipline and in fact is criminal."

Still, Austin said in the meeting with military leaders that while the numbers may be small, they are not as small as anyone would like. "No matter what it is, it is … not an insignificant problem and has to be addressed," Kirby said during a press gaggle in the Pentagon.

The stand down will occur over the next 60 days, Kirby said. This is so "each service, each command and each unit can take the time out to have these needed discussions with the men and women of the force," he said.

There is much that needs to be hammered out including the details of the training that will go along with the stand down and what the secretary and all in the military want to accomplish. The stand down is similar to safety stand downs that units may have, Kirby said.

Austin called extremism in the ranks a leadership issue, and "it's got to be a leadership issue down to the lowest levels, small unit leadership all the way up to him," Kirby said. "So if you consider it a leadership issue, then maybe there will be some potential solutions there to allow us greater visibility."

This is a thorny problem, one that has raised its head in the past. There is a DOD Instruction aimed at this very problem — DODI 1325.06 "Handling Dissident and Protest Activities Among Members of the Armed Forces."

The DOD Instruction expressly prohibits military personnel from actively advocating for and participating in supremacist, extremist or criminal gang doctrine, ideology or causes, Kirby said.

There are questions that need to be answered, like what constitutes extremist activity? What is permissible in looking for extremists in the ranks?

In the meeting today, Austin made it clear that he is still mulling over how he wants to organize the effort to attack the problem from an institutional perspective, the press secretary said.

The secretary may establish a task force to get after the problem or perhaps another way. "He hasn't ruled anything in or out," Kirby said.

“they are freaked that there may be opposition from the military.”

Purging them from the ranks will only piss them off more, and solidify loyalty to PDJT.

Well there’s another chunk of history omitted from high school history books.

With Oswald there are a lot of chunks.

Probably not.

They’re still rolling on the floor laughing about Biden allowing “transgendered” weirdos into the U.S. military.

Hey Austin, never forget that our oath of office was to uphold the Constitution of the United States against ALL enemies, both foreign and domestic.

We are obliged to obey all lawful orders, but we are not under oath to obey any individual or portion of the Federal government which is acting contrary to the Constitution.

In the last three months we have seen the various State boards of election, State & Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court and the Congress of the United States ignore all pleas to examine evidence of a fraudulent election.

If Biden & handlers and the Democrat Congress had actually worked toward unifying the country as they have so vigorously proclaimed, then the situation might have been defused. Instead, Congress rages on toward the impeachment trial of a private citizen on the most flimsy of charges. Biden, with his flurry of wide ranging dictates (”Executive Orders”) has become the Dictator he previously condemned. “In October, Joe Biden said during an ABC News town hall that there are “things you can’t do by executive order, unless you’re a dictator.”

What do you expect honorably men & women to do? Keep pushing, just keep pushing, and you may just find out.

“The Capitol is open to the public.”
Used to be.

“It is not a forbidden zone.”
Didn’t used to be.

“Anyone is allowed entry.”
How about that fence?

In two weeks’ time we lost America.

And that’s part of their calculations.

“they are freaked that there may be opposition from the military.”

The Military should have seen this barreling at them after nanzi had all the NG troops at the capitol interrogated and checked for pure thoughts and feelings.

She didn't trust the troops guarding them and now it seems the brass has orders from these same elites hiding behind their walled in compound to perform purity tests on the active military. It seems the Myanmar coup may have them concerned that their 7000 NG guards and miles of razor wire topped fencing may not be adequate.

A government scared of its own shadow is not a very stable government and don't think this nations enemies aren't watching verrrry closely and taking notes.

Expect a drawdown of the military like you never seen before. 50%+ cuts across the board. BRAC. Discontinuation of modern weapons systems like the F-22 and F-35.

They aren’t as scared of us, as much as they are scared of what they have done.

Thwy know they are wrong. And that makes them deadly dangerous.

They will not rest until “the threat” is destroyed. They need to believe that we are “the threat.”

This isn’t going away. They won’t let it. They can’t.

Service men and women who hold to The Constitution and their Creator God are the same Patriots that won this once great Nation its Freedom from the tyrannical blasphemy of England. And as Patriots, they are of course dangerous to their agenda of both transforming and terraforming the United States into a Communist regime.

Terraforming, wind, solar, etc. GMO crops, genetic tampering.

Is this moron aware it’s an all volunteer military? You insult their integrity and actually expect they will re-up?

If his objective is a military that is first and foremost loyal to the the Democrat party, even if smaller and weaker, then having Patriots not re-up is a feature and not a bug.

details of the training that will go along with the stand down

we’ll send you to die in obscure places around the world
we’ll use you as toy soldiers
and then we’ll interrogate you and send you to weeks of CRT propaganda to make sure that you conform to liberal mindthink - and if you don’t a tranny gets your job

because this is the next phase of wealth redistribution and destruction of America’s image in the world, same as persecution of cops and other highlyskilled/paid workers

in the meantime a 60-day standdown means a period of time to reconstitute. Which makes one wonder why such a wide window is being opened

It’s OK to talk and teach about maiming or killing as long as it’s for the government: 16 inch shells, 2-ton blockbusters, drones, flame-throwers, Composition C, whatever. But not for your own ideals. < /s >

Flood congress with mail on this. Our troops have had enough torment by the political commisars and PC gestapo.

I use Fiscal Note and know they get the mail. Use whatever makes you happy but flood the congress. This needs to stop NOW. Our troops have endured enough.

A 60 day stand down, if it is complete, will destroy the training pace of a training pipeline that struggles to keep up in the first place without this silly crap.

It’s a beautiful thing in life when you are blessed with a truly great leader. You never forget!

Ain't that the truth! During my tour in Germany (77-81), I was blessed to have several great commanders in various roles:

COL James Albritton, Tac Fighter Wing Cdr at Hahn AB. He was a huge supporter of my Army ADA unit, I got to know him pretty well, during various Tac Evals.

LTC Phil Holman, my last battalion commander in Germany. Through his leadership, he turned a C-3 battalion into a C-1 in less than 18 months.

COL Johnie Forte, one of my Group Commanders. I got a lot of face time with him, as he liked to pop in announced at our Tac Park on Friday afternoons. I was usually the only officer on site.

BG Archie Cannon, Deputy CG of 32nd AADCOM. He gave me one of my happiest memories of my otherwise mediocre military career. I had gotten into it with the team chief of a Department of the Army Nuclear Surety Inspection. My reserve platoon made its mission time 30 minutes early, but that wasn't good enough for him, and he addressed that at the outbriefing. He didn't like the fact I took extra time training my soldiers, who had not done any infantry tactics since Basic Training.

General Cannon's first remarks were, "LT NHN, I'll take that hit for you. Anytime you want to give your soldiers extra training, you have my permission."

GEN Alexander Haig was a superb NATO Commander. He visited Hahn during my time there, and gave a dynamic speech.

If Trump moved to purge the ranks of Obama-ites, there would have been calls to impeach. From republicans. But Joseph Stolen can do loyalty screening.
