United Educators of San Francisco's Susan Solomon, which represents teachers, said in a statement that the safety standards they are proposing hew closely to "the most recent state and local standards released in the last few weeks."
"Any path to bringing students back to campuses will require implementing multi-layered mitigation strategies that consider community conditions and include robust cleaning and updated ventilation systems, asymptomatic testing of students, school employees, six-feet social distancing, and vaccines," she said in the statement.
Per the San Francisco Chronicle's Heather Knight, the reopening plan will not mandate vaccines for students, the union representatives said at a press conference.
Their recommendation is that schools reopen in the orange tier — which indicates "moderate" virus spread in the state's reopening framework — if teachers are unable to get the vaccine. San Francisco is currently in the purple tier, which represents widespread transmission of the virus. If teachers are vaccinated, the proposal would permit schools reopen in the red tier, which denotes "substantial" spread.

Let's see: Robust Cleaning - That could take weeks to months to create a baseline, then good luck keeping gloves, masks, sanitizer in stock. I sell them and we can't keep them in stock
Updated Ventilation Systems - wonder how long that will take and the work can't begin until negotiations are complete and money transferred.
asymptomatic testing of students but, no vaccination requirement? What a bunch of bunk
6 feet distancing for everyone?
Sounds like the school day is going to be staggered or very long...
Amazingly, schools across American are suddenly reopening. Propitious timing:

Next year, and after all that free money from Uncle Sugar.
Teachers I know are INSISTING on vaccination before they step back into the petri dish.

How about a simple ultimatum, return to work Monday or be fired. I am sure there are lots of teachers around the country who would love to have a job.

There’s not a single state in the union that could fire all their teachers and have classrooms back inside of 2 years.

Simpler plan:
1 schools open next work.
2 teachers who refuse to show are fired with loss of pension.

Th orange tier won’t happen til summer. And 6 feet of distancing means school will be open two days a week only. Need to divide each class in half.
