My hunch is that regardless of what happens the vote to “convict” would be no more that 56-44. OTOH it seems possible that for various reasons that there would be fewer than 56 “guilty” votes.
China Mitch punted impeachment to give faux support from the GOP for President Trump when he is out of office and can’t benefit politically. The GOP want to put their certification of the stolen election far in the rear view mirror and are using impeachment to do it. I’ve never thought the GOP were going to convict. The nonsense about McConnell being undecided is pure gaslighting beltway theater.
