San Francisco sues schools, cites high of suicidal students

SAN FRANCISCO - The number of suicidal children in San Francisco has hit a record high and health experts say it is clear that keeping public schools closed “is catalyzing a mental health crisis among school-aged children,” according to a lawsuit the city filed Thursday to push its school district to reopen classrooms.

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera announced last week he was taking the dramatic step of suing the city’s own school district, which has kept its classrooms closed nearly a year. In the motion filed Thursday in San Francisco Superior Court, Herrera included alarming testimony from hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area, doctors and parents on the emotional and mental harms of extended distance learning.

San Francisco’s 52,000 public school students have been out of classes since March. Public health officials have allowed city schools to reopen since September but the district and teachers unions have not been able to finalize a deal on reopening classrooms.

The lawsuit is the first of its kind in California and possibly the country, as school systems come under increasing pressure from parents and politicians to end virtual learning. It has prompted discussion in other cities including Los Angeles, where a city councilman is urging similar legal action to force schools open.

The lawsuit highlights the growing tension and infighting nationwide between politicians who insist it is safe to return to schools with proper safety precautions and teachers who are on the front lines and have not been able to get vaccinated yet.

Yes, I think we've spotted the problem.

150 years ago, when there were no public schools, were there also record suicides?

The assertion is ludicrous on its face.

Lack of campus based education does not cause suicide.

Imagine what it would be like to be a kid stuck at home with your San Francisco parents!

“150 years ago, when there were no public schools, were there also record suicides?

150 years ago the entire country wasn’t locked down.
Kids went to church with their parents, played daily with their friends or worked in their parents shops or on the farms.
The average family had more than 2 kids so there was plenty for the older kids to do around the home helping out and looking after their younger siblings.

Society is a softer place now.
The average kid has no concept of deprivation. No idea that what he/she wants NOW just isn’t available. His/her wall of participation trophies and certificates tell them they are special and not to be denied their wants.
Now, suddenly, they are smacked in the face with the realization that they aren’t so special after all. That has to have a negative effect.

Finally, humans are, with some exceptions, herd animals. Suddenly for an extended period of time, the herd isn’t available to them. Their herd has been cut by 99%. People, especially children, crave experiences both ordinary and out of the ordinary. The opportunity for those experiences are denied them.
Now wonder the little darlings are going bat crap crazy.

It’s LOCKDOWN and isolation that is affecting them, not the lack of campus schooling.

If parents would simply take them for a daily walk, or let them out to play with kids in the neighborhood, the problem would be solved.

Stop paying the unionista teachers and watch how fast the schools reopen.

Unfortunately most kids now get their daily dose of society from school or school events. As the lockdown closed the schools it took away their main avenue of participation in society.

Restaurants, movie theaters, public playgrounds, beaches and parks are locked down. Berkeley, CA doesn’t even want people going outside to exercise. The parents lucky enough to still be working have no where to take their kids because everything is locked down.
The big problem is thereis NO END IN SIGHT as the dems keep moving the finish line. Now China Joe Potato Head Biden is telling us that face diapers will be required through 2022! And another article stated at the present rate of vaccination it will take 7 years to return to normalcy.
What does a kid think when he hears mom and dad talking about these things?

150 years ago the idea of locking the entire country down would have been laughed at.
Today the fear porn and the Karens of the world are ruining life for us all.

Interesting timing, ain’t it.

Does the city want a bite out of the school district’s federal bailout?

They haven’t turned on each other. No one has the courage to force the teachers to do their jobs, so they’re suing to make it look like they’re doing something. And the teachers still get their way and get to stay at home. Everybody on the Left wins, and the students and parents lose.
