It was unimportant that I believe the smartest man in America is Thomas Sowell, a black man. Or that I think Justice Thomas is one of the most brilliant men ever to sit on the Supreme Court. Or the fact that one of the most respected men in my life personally was a black man.

But those things ARE unimportant, at least in the context the writer proposes.

It would not matter if EVERY OTHER BLACK MAN IN AMERICA was your personal friend, was exceptionally wise, competed annually for the title of "the smartest man in America", as long as you thought the Obama regime was a bad one.

Thinking Thomas Sowell is the smartest man in America (a bit de trop, no?) and using it to defend your entirely appropriate and correct analysis of Obama - what can you say about that? You are confused? You are intellectually weak? You are trying not to be called "racist", even though you know that's inevitable?

Hence Disraeli’s dictum. Trying to explain to these fascists merely makes you appear defensive.
