I could find another thread on today's events in the Senate Chamber.
There will be a separate vote on which witnesses can be called.
This is going to drag on for weeks, if not months.
You could be right.
Lyndsey Graham changed his vote from against this to for it and he said it was because “If you want to delay this event, then we will have many witnesses.”
NBC News: The Senate voted 55 to 45 to begin the process of allowing witnesses to be considered in Trump’s second impeachment trial, a surprise decision that will likely extend the proceedings after it appeared headed to a quick end on Sunday.
The Senate vote allows debate on which witnesses could be called and what rules might apply to the process.
Lead impeachment manager Rep. Jamie Raskin, D- Md., wants to hear from Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wa., who put out a statement late Friday night saying House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told her that he called Trump during the Jan. 6 unrest to ask for help, but was rejected.
Trump defense attorney Michael Van der Veen objected to the call for witnesses, which had not been expected as part of the trail, threatening to drag out the proceedings if any witnesses are called.
“If they want to have witnesses, I’m going to need at least 100 depositions, not just one,” Van der Veen said.
All Democratic senators voted to move forward with the process of calling witnesses, joined by five Republicans: Mitt Romney of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
THey are in a quorum call right now so nothing much going on.
So... They are going to vote to allow only witnesses against Trump and none for his defense. Communist China would be very proud of this new definition of Due Process...
Scumbag Rino needs to be Primaried.
Sen. John Thune says he’s open to censure of Trump as impeachment trial nears end
By Dave Boyer and Alex Swoyer - The Washington Times - Friday, February 12, 2021
Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the Senate‘s second-ranking Republican, said Friday he’s open to censuring former President Donald Trump, as the impeachment trial of Mr. Trump nears a vote for acquittal.
“I’ve seen a couple of [censure] resolutions at least that I think could attract some support,” Mr. Thune said of his Republican colleagues.
Asked if that includes him, Mr. Thune replied, “Yes.”

Thanks for that info.
My concern is Dem witnesses get a 54-46 yes vote and Trump witnesses get a 54-46 no vote.
What a sham.
Thune is scum.
Yes, it’s a sham.
If they do that, there will be no way it can even be attempted to call it a “fair” trial.
I think with 50/50 senate it will be a witness per side.
I would like to hear from the folks who opened the door to the protestors. Was it on Nancy’s orders, or did some contingent of the capitol police stage something as a protest to Nancy.
Each of the republicans who voted yes are scum. And all the democrats. This “Trial” is making up laws as they go along. It would make Stalin, Mao and Hitler proud.
Evidently what prompted this call for witnesses is a report of a call by Kevin McCarthy to President Trump during the Jan 6 crisis - which the President refused.
So now they are going to call witnesses.
THe President’s defense is saying we will need hundreds of witnesses.
Is the Senate’s Impeachment legal under the Constitution?
THe President’s attorney said do NOT limit the number of witnesses I can call.
There is a single charge of “incitement” against President Trump. How could a private call between McCarthy and Trump on Jan 6th “incite” the crowd already inside the US Capital? And from a hearsay “witness”?
This is Washington DC nonsense.
No.
