York County Republican Committee votes to censure U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey
Pennlive ^ | 13 February A.D. 2021 | Paul Vigna

The York County Republican Committee late Saturday censured U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey following his decision to find former President Donald Trump guilty at the end of the weeklong impeachment trial.

Trump was acquitted by a 57-43 Senate vote.

The committee in its press release said that Toomey’s voting record over the past four years runs counter to the principles of the GOP and that he’s out of touch with the core beliefs of Pennsylvania Republicans.

“For the past four years Sen. Toomey sat silently as a hyper-partisan Democrat Congress relentlessly attacked President Trump, impeaching him twice on fabricated charges,” said state House Representative Dawn Keefer, who proposed the resolution. “Given [Toomey’s] recent support of the second unconstitutional impeachment effort against a president who is no longer in office, the York County Republican Committee has reached the limits of its frustration.”

Jeff Piccola, the committee chairman, said it’s “so sad that Sen. Toomey has never attempted to reach out to the York County Republican Party to justify his vote to proceed with the House’s impeachment of President Trump with an investigation, evidence or due process.”

He added that it’s “imperative that Republican voters in York County know that the York County Republican Committee does not approve or condone many of the positions and recent actions of Sen. Toomey and no longer recognizes him as a creditable representative of our party.”

Censure Resolution of United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. February 13, 2021

WHEREAS, the York County Republican Committee has met on February 13, 2021; and

WHEREAS, United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr., by and through his actions, has failed the People of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, During the Election of 2020, the Governor of the Commonwealth, the Secretary of the Commonwealth, a partisan majority of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and various counties in the Commonwealth engaged in direct violations of the United States Constitution which brought into question the integrity of the Presidential Election in Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. sat silent, failing to address the legitimate concerns of his constituents; and,

WHEREAS, A hyper-partisan U.S. House of Representatives, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congressman Adam Schiff and Congressman Jerrold Nadler, spent nearly the entirety of President Trump’s term in office engaged in an unwarranted effort to impeach the President based on charges they knew or should have known to be false; and

WHEREAS, United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. sat silently by, giving his tacit approval of these egregious acts of these Members of Congress; and,

WHEREAS, This same hyper-partisan U.S. House of Representatives, again led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, delivered a second Article of Impeachment of President, Donald J. Trump, to the United States Senate for trial; and

WHEREAS, proceeding with a trial on Articles of Impeachment against a President who has already left office is unprecedented, constitutionally infirm and motivated by the same hyper-partisan interests that sought to impeach the President during the preceding four years; and,

WHEREAS, The Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, in likely recognition of the folly that is the United States Senate’s Impeachment trial, refused to preside over the trial; and,

WHEREAS, The United States Senate, in direct contravention of Article I, Section 3of the United States Constitution, has proceeded with an Impeachment trial without the Chief Justice presiding; and,

WHEREAS, In a staggering deprivation of Due Process and the right to a fair and unbiased tribunal, United States Senator Patrick Leahy is serving as judge, juror and witness in the Impeachment trial; and,

WHEREAS, United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. endorsed this unprecedented unconstitutional action when he voted to proceed with an Impeachment trial for a President that is no longer in office; and,

WHEREAS, United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr.’s voting record is replete with positions that are counter to the principles of the Republican Party and out of touch with the core beliefs of the People of Pennsylvania; and,

WHEREAS, The People of Pennsylvania deserve better elected representation than United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. has given; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, The York County Republican Committee hereby censures United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr.; be it further RESOLVED, The York County Republican Committee condemns, in the strongest terms, the actions of United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr. for his failure to defend the Constitution and the freedoms it guarantees; be it further

RESOLVED, The York County Republican Committee discourages members of the Republican Party of York County from making campaign contributions to him in the future; and strongly encourages Senator Toomey to return campaign contributions made to im in 2020 by any member of the Republican Party of York County who requests such a refund; and be it further

RESOLVED, The York County Republican Committee Chairman shall submit copies of this resolution to United States Senator Patrick Joseph Toomey, Jr., the Pennsylvania Republican State Committee, United States Senator, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Republican Members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation.

Won't mean much to the lame duck Tumor.

Good boilerplate for Republican Committee counterparts in Utah, Alaska, Maine, and a few other states.

Does a censure prevent them from running on the party ticket anymore?

It should.

Yet more evidence that the GOP grassroots want to take the party away from the oligarchs. All it took was a Trump to come along and show that it’s possible.

Won’t be necessary. Tumor has announced that he won’t be seeking another term.

Pothead Lt. Governor Fetterman (D) has already thrown his bong into the ring.

Might spread...one reason for posting it here, to plant ideas.

I’d love to see similar actions against Romney, Markowski, and Collins and the other three traitors.

Yes, definitely good boilerplate. Thanks for posting.

I wasn’t quite sure what was involved in censuring, that is, if it had any real impact. But apparently it affects their funding, so yes, it does make a difference.

It affects funding, it shines a spotlight on bad behavior, and it can lead to the phrase “who was censured” being added into news stories about the Senator cutting some ribbon somewhere.

Bad publicity, in other words.

Booting him out at primary time would require votes. Unfortunately, Freepers who don’t seem to have noses, are now Independents. I assume these Feepers do not have noses since they were busy spiting their faces.

My response to an prior email from toomer.

Pat,

Please see the enclosed censure from York county. It sums up my displeasure in your accounting of the offfice you hold. I thank you for your service. but it is found wanting.

You included in your email response the Statement

Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who succumbed to his injuries after being struck in the head.....

Keith : This is not even true. It is not known how this officer died and the lie remains due to the fact that your leadership, Nancy Pelosi, failed to secure the capital building on Jan 6th in breach of her oath of office. There has been no investigation into the death of one of your own. This is typical of her D’Alesardro crime family roots. I am truely amazed that you have no condemnation or have not have not called for an investigation of her failure to secure the offices that she has responsiblity for which may have led to the death of officer Sicknick. There has not been and investigation into his death. Will you call for an investigation of his death?

Again, I thank you for your service. I would like for you to resign your office but the Governor would appoint some one worse. That makes you a better holder of the office than our governor would appoint in your place.

There won’t be a need to “primary”.

Tumor won’t be running again.
