(CNSNews.com) - Coincidentally, but right on cue, the generator-supplied power went out in the home of former Texas Governor and former Trump Energy Secretary Rick Perry Monday night, just as Perry began his interview with Fox News's Tucker Carlson.
Carlson said the power outage was "proving the point that we're making" -- that it's the government's responsibility to provide reliable power during life-threatening cold snaps, and green energy is not up to the job.
"So the point is, you need to have a diversity of energy sources, no matter where you are, and it couldn't be a greater example of that in the State of Texas right now," Perry said.
"We've got massive amount of wind farms out in West Texas that are frozen up, they are just like a propeller on an airplane, they froze up last night, no wind out there. All of that wind energy was lost."
Perry said it's the job of elected officials to "look over the horizon," to anticipate challenges like the one Texas is facing right now, with snow and freezing temperatures in a state unaccustomed to such extremes.
(The temperature dropped to one degree Fahrenheit in Dallas overnight, as millions of people in Texas and other southern states shivered through the dark night.)
"Having a diverse base load of energy is incredibly important," Perry said.

Rick Perry: Lives could be lost adhering to Green New Deal philosophy
I can’t stand Rick Perry....but he is exactly right. Tucker was just spouting right wing talking points about wind farms. THIS WAS DUE TO TOO MUCH RELIANCE ON NATURAL GAS.
Energy diversity, AND energy tolerance.
Gen IV nukes.
As an aside, was Perry wearing a Gardasil shirt?...
Rick Perry was governor when T Boone Pickens conned him into putting half the state on solar and wind power. So now we get treated to Perry’s opinion on how to fix the problem he created. Oh, by the way Governor Abbott was his attorney general at the time.
This idiot. Diversity is what created this problem. When the state was run on coal and gas power, and some nuclear there was never a power shortage no matter what the weather, unless lines were torn down by the storm.
Bush and his extended circle is still screwing taxes in the country. By the way, Perry and Abbott both work as hard as they could to move half of California into Texas. And now here’s what they’ve created.
Wind farms had everything to do with it. Gas and coal are not the problem here. Except in the minds of a Californian.
I’ve been saying for a while that anyone who talks about converting to Green Energy and isn’t talking about nextgen nuclear reactor development and mass deployment is talking about taking living standards back several decades. At best.
We’ve got a lot of that Ohio coal up here if they need it.
:-)
We have plenty of Lignite, just need to get those plants they recently closed down back up and running.
“Carlson said the power outage was “proving the point that we’re making” — that it’s the government’s responsibility to provide reliable power during life-threatening cold snaps”
Herein lies the problem. For most of the history of the electric utility industry service reliability was the responsibility of the utility companies. That seemed to work pretty well. It is shifting more and more to the government.
With the government calling the shots, and college indoctrinated CEOs coming on the scene, utilites are moving from proven, reliable and economic energy sources.
I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.
Too much reliance on natural gas?
How about reliance on electric pumps for the pipelines.
U r wrong and I am right.
No, what they should do is use the least expensive, most practical form of energy, one that does not need taxpayer subsidies. Wind power is inefficient and unreliable. Natural gas is plentiful, cheap, and reliable. There is no comparison. Nuclear energy makes sense, but people are scared of it.
You also have to consider the costs in producing the energy and what you might call side effects, such as disposing of those giant wind turbines in landfills once they are out of service.
Yup. We don’t need power diversity, we need power monotony. Base load of nuclear, with a couple gas/coal plants for occasional power boosts for stuff like this. Simple.
No....actually, you are ignorant.
Wait and see...right wing hand wringing about turbines is mostly a non-factor in Texas right now...it was all natural gas fault because when it is too cold the gas won’t flow due to mechanical issues. In cold places they know the most reliable form of generation is heavy fuel oil. In the north they keep heavy fuel oil specifically for these events. Texas doesn’t keep HFO.
War Room is blaming much of this disaster in TX on Perry’s decisions for wind and solar energy.
Exactly right. I have no more use listening to Governor Goodhair lecture people on how to "fix" the mess created under HIS watch than I do listening to creepy Uncle Joe do the same.
...Natural gas is plentiful, cheap...it’s not cheap where I am at (Va.) but it is reliable!
