A Suggestion for Donald Trump

Washington -- Saturday was a good day for the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. The First Amendment has been validated once again, this time by the United States Senate. Simply by speaking his mind, Citizen Donald Trump committed no crime on Jan. 6. That was when he addressed a large crowd telling them they should march "peacefully" and "patriotically." He told them they should "fight like hell." Those are words frequently employed by politicians, and Trump's defense team gave us plenty of blood-curdling examples of Democrats uttering precisely those words in an angry montage Friday. When it was all over, what struck me is how both sides resort to warlike rhetoric from the stump. Come to think about it, both sides have their thugs: the Proud Boys on the right, the adepts of antifa and Black Lives Matter on the left.

Speaking on Newsmax after the Senate voted to acquit Trump, Alan Dershowitz, professor emeritus of the Harvard Law School, said: "Today was a very good day for the Constitution. ... There was no Constitutional basis for going ahead with the trial in the Senate for citizen Trump. Moreover, his First Amendment rights prevailed over any accusations of what was done." Though Trump, Dershowitz adds, is "going to be a busy guy for the next few months." Dershowitz is presumably referring to the cases being filed against Trump in state courts.

I, for one, believe it will be a waste of Trump's time to be fighting off charges at the state level. As things stand right now, Trump is probably the most harassed private citizen in American history. He was harassed by the intelligence community on his way into office. Why, I still have not figured out. He was harassed by the intelligence community and the House of Representatives throughout most of his presidency. Finally, until his acquittal Saturday, he was being harassed by the House of Representatives, or at least the Democrats in the House of Representatives, and now he is going to defend himself at the state level. Possibly, his lawyers will take his case to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. He could not win a Nobel Prize for Peace for his role in the Abraham Accords, but maybe he will have better luck at the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Actually, I can think of a better way for him to spend the next year or so. Why not write a book about how he came into office with very little experience in government and brought the economy to life in no time? No one in their right mind denies it. Then, too, he nominated a record number of judicial appointments, including three Supreme Court justices. Then there was his very successful deregulation program, the Abraham Accords in the Middle East and Black and Latino unemployment at their lowest levels ever. With so many Black and Latinos working, he had replaced the welfare state with the full-employment state. Then came COVID-19. It undid one or two of the aforementioned triumphs (temporarily?), but it gave him an opportunity to oversee Operation Warp Speed. How about a chapter on that? I will even give him a title for his book: "The Art of the New, New Deal."

The economy was asleep throughout the Obama administration. We had the slowest recovery rate in decades. Barack Obama called it the "new normal." Trump reversed it. He cut taxes on everyone, and people in the lower percentiles were doing better from their tax cuts than the top earners. Another very effective way to increase growth was to stop miring the economy in regulations and to free it from government snarl. This Trump did, and now we are going back to the days of snarl. Trump, in his book "The Art of the New, New Deal," can explain how markets are more efficient than ... well, than the post office in allocating resources and moving product. One of Trump's greatest achievements has been his judicial appointments. He has nominated judges who believe in the Rule of Law. That is to say, the courts will treat everyone the same, and no one will get special treatment. Finally, the Abraham Accords seem to be bringing peace to the Middle East. This, too, was Trump's achievement

All of these achievements are now imperiled by the new administration. The fact is that Donald Trump presided over policies that were effective. In the next two years, it is up to him to defend those policies. I wish him luck.

Proud Boys are thugs? I don’t know that much about them but I would not call them thugs. Now Antifa are thugs and worse.

I say this as a college-level insructor with a doctorate: nobody gives a damn about books, especially anyone Millennial or lower in age.

Trump rallies worked for him in 2016 and 2020, and will continue to work as long as he is willing to hold them.

Getting on his own social media, or pairing with Parler or Gab or MeWe, being regularly on Newsmax or OANN or Mark Steyn, and getting those among his children who really support the MAGA agenda to become a vocal part of the movement, these are how you reach the young.

It is sad the Emmet Tyrell cannot figure this out.

To anyone who studies power politics, it has been obvious for at least four years.

Trump, but putting America First, threatened the existing ruling class, which has been making trillions by putting America last for decades.

They is vast money to be made by selling American power and technology to the Chinese.

We live in a new age of censorship.

Will any publisher print and market a book by Trump? The major publishers will be under considerable pressure from their woke employees and leftist organizations not to publish a Trump book. Even if Trump self publishes, he still has to get distribution for it.

If published will any retailer with significant distribution buy and carry it? Amazon (owned by Trump enemy Bezos), the nation’s largest bookseller could decide not to buy it. Costco, another large bookseller, is another liberal business.

Will public libraries purchase and carry a Trump book? Public libraries purchase significant quantities of books. At my local library any book by progressive politicians and pundits (Obama, Hillary) is purchased in large quantities. Conservatives, few copies if any are purchased. I can see the American Library Association encouraging its members not to buy a Trump book.

Perhaps the greatest benefit of a Trump book would be to increase awareness in the public of censorship.

Great article, except for:
In the next two years, it is up to him to defend those policies.

Trump is "away from the office" on personal time. In his absence, do we not have a Republican party in opposition that is on the front line and actually equipped to do defend those policies?

What happened to Emmett Tyrrell? He wrote a really nasty piece about Trump after the 6th blaming him for the mayhem in DC. It irritated me enough that I unsubscribed from the American Spectator, a ‘magazine’ I’ve always enjoyed reading. Apparently he’s gotten new info, but I don’t see an apology here.

my idea FWIW,

Trump should produce a show called “Political Apprentice” and recruit congressional candidates for targeted districts / senate seats.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Because he wanted to reverse the largest bipartisan project of the last 30 years, the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).
“How many cities have the Proud Boys burned down ? How many coups d’état have they participated in ?”
Has there even been violence associated with the right in which Leftists weren’t around? In other words, the Left, left to themselves, burn down cities (be it Antifa, BLM, or simply the locals). Do the Proud Boys do the same when they’re left alone, does the KKK do the same, does the Bugaboos (or whoever they are) do the same? I can’t think of a single example in recent times...maybe they have, but I have yet to hear of a single case.
The Republican party largely opposes those policies.
“Even if Trump self publishes, he still has to get distribution for it.”
He can simply have it passed around as a PDF, if he chooses, since he doesn’t need the money.
The BIGGER question is when will the book be banned, and what will be the penalties for possession, should the government/police/Geeksquad ‘find’ a copy on one’s computer. I suspect that it will be similar to what happens when child porn is found (including registration for life).
The Proud Boys are not thugs. You were right to suspect that it’s an absolute lie. They merely stand up to the violence of the Left in an organized way. They may demonstrate, but they do not vandalize, riot, or steal. If you mess with them, they will mess with you. But they are nothing like Antifa or the more violent faction of the BLM movement.
I wouldn’t worry about President Donald Trump. He is exactly where he wants to be in this moment. He knows when he will be returning to the Whitehouse even though we dont.
The Proud Boys, from what little I know that is factual, are nothing like Antifa on any moral level.
There is a discussion on the Internet opining that Trump should run for Congress and with the Republicans taking over the House he would be Speaker. As Speaker he would then push through impeachment of Biden and Harris with the proof we have at hand. With both of them impeached and removed then Trump would assume the Presidency serving for two more years and running for President in 2024. Yea, its a little far fetched but interesting.
the Proud Boys on the right, the adepts of antifa and Black Lives Matter on the left.
Confession: I don't really know all that much about the Proud Boys. But, uh, how many riots have the Proud Boys started? I know that Antifa and BLM started hundreds.
Proud Boys are just sensible enough to realize that once commies start jumping you on the streets, it’s time to punch back.
We’ll all get to that point eventually, PB just staked out that ground earlier than most.
