Pfizer says its COVID vaccine doesn’t need to be stored at ultra-freezing temps anymore

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine no longer needs to be kept at ultra-freezing temperatures and can be safely stored inside normal medical freezers — making distribution easier, the firm said in a report Friday.

The makers of the shots, including the German biotechnology firm BioNTech, have discovered the doses can remain at between 5 and -13 degrees Fahrenheit without spoiling — instead of -94 degrees like previously thought, according to the Financial Times.

Rounding error.

If I wait long enough, it will be fine at room temp. If I get a vaccine (highly doubtful) it will be the single dose from JnJ.

How do you go from thinking it needs to be at -94 F To basically overnight saying your average household freezer will work just fine in a pinch?

It’s likely that earlier pre-production models of the lipid nanoparticles used to encapsulate the mRNA strands showed rapid deterioration at normal freezer temperatures, but that changes made during the development of the vaccine candidate helped stabilize them. Their testing focus during 2020 would be on ensuring the vaccines - as packaged - are safe and effective.

Once you know you have a safe and effective product, you can begin to try different things to see whether you can make it easier to deliver, store, handled, etc. This happens with nearly every product: you get the 1.0 version that costs a fortune and is a pain to install/set up/configure, then you see refinements happen so that later versions are smaller, faster, cheaper, and easier to use.

And in the Winter, you can serve it up hot, just like Dr. Pepper!

“The makers of the shots...”

“Shots” is what I’m used to hearing. “Jabs” seems foreign to my ears, even though most media reports (including those from the U.S.) now ape the British term.

I got both doses of the moderna vaccine which is an mRNA vaccine. the J&J vaccine is A) less effective and B) a DNA vaccine.

Here's something interesting about DNA viruses:

They colluded with Biden to withhold the trial results.

Now the logistical problems they set up for Trump just start going away for Biden. It’s a miracle.

If one can still get sick, and still pass it on, how is it a vaccine?
Is it not a symptom mitigator similar to a flu shot?
I’m legitimately asking.
