I joined in May 1967. The meeting was Wednesday night. A hike was planned down the B&O Canal on Saturday, but you had to be a Tenderfoot to go. Thursday was a national holiday. My scoutmaster had the day off and lived 2 blocks away. I studied hard and passed all my requirements on Thursday. The Saturday hike was worth the trouble.

As July arrived, I went to Scout camp in Goshen, VA. I earned my swimming, cooking, canoeing merit badges and a mile swim patch. It was the only time I ever went to Scout camp. I also finished all my requirements for First Class at camp.

We remained in Springfield, VA through the end of the year and I earned the Star rank before moving to Chula Vista.

I had to do the Lifesaving merit badge at Balboa Scout camp (pool). I had a bicycle and needed it to get to my merit badge counselors. Firemanship. Fingerprinting. Electricity. Electronics. Music. Bugling. Rifle and Shotgun Shooting. Citizenship in the Nation. A project for Life Scout and another for Eagle Scout. My Eagle Board of Review was April 12, 1972. My card bears the signature of Richard Nixon.

I joined in September 1990. Spent many summers at Camp Chawanakee in the Sierras and was lucky enough to go to Philmont the summer of ‘95. I passed my Eagle Board of Review on March 27, 1996 and has Bill Clinton’s signature unfortunately. The BSA omitted Clinton’s signature on Eagle Scout cards when the Lewinsky scandal broke lol.
