A woman in her early 30s, who gave birth to a son a month ago and has Covid-19, should be allowed to die against her family's wishes, a judge has decided.

Mr Justice Hayden ruled that doctors can lawfully stop providing life-support treatment to the woman, who has an underlying health condition and is in an induced coma.

A specialist told him that everything had been tried and the woman's chances of recovery were 'zero'.

The judge considered the case at an urgent virtual hearing in the Court of Protection, where issues relating to people who lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves are analysed, late on Tuesday.

He said the woman, a Muslim who was married and also had a daughter, could not be named.

Remember those Death Panels everybody laughed about and called a fantasy? This was a hospital decision, not a family one.

Wondering if there will be special treatment given here, because of the privileged religion. A Christian would be killed for sure.

Her religion should not matter one whit. I hope that she receives a miracle.

It’s a story from a country with no constitution. They literally make it up as they go along. The state is always going to win in that scenario.

The moral of the story as it applies to this country is always make sure you have a living will and you’ve filed that will with a lawyer, a person who is legally and ethically obligated to protect your interests and no one else’s.

If she’s in an “induced coma” - that infers that she can be brought out of it and make her own wishes known.

From the article itself it sounds like there’s no brain damage at all and the judge is deciding this because she has “little lung function” and isn’t eligible for a transplant because of a pre-existing disease.

That’s just... cruel and heartless.

But then ... this is communist medicine. Submit to the state, bro.

... despite family's belief that 'only God can end life'

If they are saying that only God can end life then why are they fighting taking her off life support? God is not keeping her alive, machines are. If they remove her from the life support and God wills that she should live then she will. If it is His will that she die then he will take her.

“This was a hospital decision”

I had to correct someone else recently who made this assertion about another case in England.

The decision has been made by a Court, not doctors.

The NHS isn’t a perfect service, but let’s stick to the facts.

“always make sure you have a living will”

That’s of no use in this situation, because The Court of Protection, acting on behalf of the patient has made a decision it believes is in the interests of the patient.

What do you think happened to us over the past year?

All she has to do is say a woman got her pregnant...and Dad will whack off her head.

Problem solved.

The concept of an end-of-life care pathway and DNR’s exist in the US too - it not just in the UK.

My 91 year old mother-in-law has a DNR, it’s placed in her refrigerator*. It’s there to ensure that should she collapse again and her heart stops or breathing stops, to NOT administer CPR. That’s it.

My father had a DNR (Spanish equivalent) and died with me present at his home in Spain. When the paramedics arrived they did not attempt CPR. Quite rightly too - or they would have physically destroyed his frail body.

*DNR documents are routinely placed in the refrigerator of a patient’s home. Every home has a fridge and it can be located in seconds.

It takes a miracle to get the western medical system to give healing therapeutics like Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin

You are doing the semantic two step. The court made the ruling because the hospital asked them to. There aren’t any judges patrolling the hospitals looking for people to disconnect.
