Teachers-union boss who led school closures caught dropping daughter off at private school 'He's been saying it is unsafe for *your kid* to be back at school'

Viral video footage shows a California teachers union president who led school closures dropping his daughter off at a private school.

Footage posted by the group Guerilla Momz shows Berkeley Federation of Teachers President Matt Meyer dropping his two-year-old daughter off at a private preschool. Meyer’s daughter’s face is blurred out.

“Meet Matt Meyer. White man with dreads and president of the local teachers’ union,” the group tweeted Saturday. “He’s been saying it is unsafe for *your kid* to be back at school, all the while dropping his kid off at private school.”

The video was filmed by Berkeley area parents who did not give their names out of fear of retaliation, according to KQED.

“We’d heard for a while that he sent his kid to private preschool and we’ve been hearing him make crazy claims at the school board meetings — it was ‘too dangerous’ for schools to open because kids wouldn’t wear masks. Meanwhile, his kid is wearing a mask at school,” Guerilla Momz said in a written statement, according to KQED.

what a deal. the guy takes tax payer money and uses it to give his kid ***school choice****. not for thee but for meeee.

wait a minute, that’s what we in the tea party asked for 12 years from the gope, Trump and his ed sec devos. they could have done it in a heart beat when they had all three branches of gov. we got nothing, but this teacher’s union guy has it figured out.

well, he’s a hypocrite, but at least he’s not an idiot. better get your kids out of the federal schools. especially the one where his kid should have gone.

Besides the obvious, please note that the guy has his kid private schooled ... I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s someplace less woke than where he works,

So let me see if I got this right

California teachers have taught an in person class since school was suspended closed to a year ago and yet they have never missed a paycheck while the rest of the country is on pay cuts and lay off.

They are refusing to teach students in person using covid as an excuse despite the fact that science has determined that school age children are at very low risk to become infected with covid and the chances of a student infecting a teacher are so remote that there has not been more than a hand full of documented student to teacher infections nationwide since the covid virus began spreading.

But they are sending their own kids to the private schools that they have their own kids enrolled in even in normal times because the public schools they teach in are are so horrible and the teaching quality so poor and the school environment so dysfunctional and dangerous that teachers refuse to subject THEIR children to the public schools

So they can stay home with the freedom of a childless paid vacation?

I think it's a long stretch to call this a private preschool. It may be, but a two year old is not going to preschool. She is going to daycare.

LOL

The “union leader” in our middle-working class NY suburban school district is the same. Her sinecure is as a "guidance counselor" for middle school students, and even at that reduced-work, simple job, she’s totally useless. Her salary is $230K per year, last I checked.

Also sends her two daughters to the 140+ year old, very expensive, “blue blood” local girls school with the "gothic revival" main hall and wood-paneled library.

If you know of someplace where he could get his two year old publically schooled, please advise.

I'm not making excuses for the guy. He is an educrat and deserves all the grief he gets. It does, however, pay to understand the facts.

So would love to know what school is it? What does tuition cost? What is his salary? Is this a paid-for perk in his contract?

well, i think we all agree that the President badly misread and mishandled the gope.

any tea partyer could have set him straight, but he thought he could deal with mcconnell, ryan the rest of the gope.

i hope he’s learned his lesson, finally.

It varies by school district. For the most part, teachers that are not in class, are teaching online.

Having sent my kid to the same private school from two years old thru high school, there is a difference between daycare and preschool.

My kid went to preschool at 2 years old. Not daycare.

Sure, there is a lot of daycare types of things - finger painting and modeling clay types of things. But they are actually getting an education - learning to read, learning how to read and perform music, learning (two) other languages, swimming lessons, making stand up presentations to groups of 20-25 adults, etc.

All taught in a school with a 5 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

He is now a freshman at a top 50 college.

There is a significant difference between daycare and preschool. And, unfortunately, a lot of great kids never find their true potential because they never had the opportunity to explore it.

It’s been over 30 years since my kids went to school but I know they started when they were 3. We didn’t have public kindergarten but by the time they were old enough for first grade they had already done 3 years of schooling. You’re right though, school at 2 is a bit of a stretch. They probably have a daycare center in the same building as the school.
