Mass insanity appears to have gripped nearly the entire nation of New Zealand, which has placed its largest city, Auckland, under its fourth lockdown requiring people to stay indoors at home (AKA "house arrest"), this time because one case of COVID was discovered (a second case followed after the lockdown was announced). The nation's leader, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, is blaming the victim for presumed rule-breaking, on the theory that the spread of a virus can be completely prevented if only people obey their leaders who are imposing radical confinement rules on them.

As if contracting COVID isn’t “punishment” enough. Actually, I think they should consider throwing the book at the miscreants who actually die from COVID!

They should just deny them and their families medical treatment ...
and make them wear a mark sewn onto their clothes.

Wouldn’t knocking on doors go against the idea of isolation?
I guess after they hire people to go knock on doors they’ll have to fine and punish the door knockers for violating the ordinance.

Well, yes, the spread of a virus can be prevented by a complete lockdown, i.e. complete in that nobody goes out for groceries or for any other reason at all (including to enforce the lockdown). However, as soon as people go out again, the virus will spread again. Virus gonna virus...

They’ll just sew a mask right to their face so they can’t forget to wear it.
NZ is a favorite of the wealthy silicon valley tech community as an escape hatch. At one time I thought it would be a great place to retire despite the lack of baseball. Not anymore. The current PM and her ilk have turned NZ into a police state (with Australia not far behind).
I spent 10 days on South Island last February.
Beautiful country, lovely people who mostly thought the city folks up North were crazy.
NZ has a few uninhabited islands nearby. Except to fly the infected there, they’d have to quarantine the crew and burn the aircraft.
