Australian Strategic Policy Institute Study Finds That American Corporate Brand You Like Is Probably Linked to China's Forced Labor Camps

83.

That’s the number of U.S. and other foreign firms a new study links to China’s forced Uighur labor camps. Forbes has the details.

The 83 foreign and Chinese companies that ASPI has identified as directly or indirectly benefiting from the potentially abusive transfer programs for Uighurs include clothing brands such as Adidas, Gap, Tommy Hilfiger and Uniqlo; carmakers such as BMW, General Motors, Jaguar and Mercedes Benz; and tech giants such as Apple, Google, Huawei and Microsoft.

The camps include ideological “reeducation” and the workers are not allowed to go home. Their labor is advertised and sold online, including suggestions that they are not free to choose their work or lifestyle.

Factory bosses receive cash compensations for each Uighur worker they employ. Some companies have even advertised their ability to supply Uighur workers through online bookings. One such ad, claiming to be able to supply 1,000 Uighur workers aged 16 to 18 years, read: “The advantages of Xinjiang workers are: semi-military style management, can withstand hardship, no loss of personnel … Minimum order 100 workers!”

Also included:

In one case, a batch of “graduates” from a so-called vocational training center in south Xinjiang were transferred directly to a factory in the eastern Anhui province, according to a government report. The factory, Haoyuanpeng Clothing Manufacturing Co. Ltd, lists Fila, Adidas, Puma and Nike among its clients. Xinjiang workers have also been placed in factories that are part of Apple’s supply chains, including a plant in Guangzhou visited by Apple CEO Tim Cook in December 2017.

Some brands including Adidas, Bosch and Panasonic told ASPI they had no direct contractual relationships with the suppliers indicated in the report, but no one could rule out a link further down their supply chain.

There’s more at the link.

They do anything the ChiComs tell them to for fear of getting locked out of the mainland economy. It’s a deal with a devil, because the ChiComs also demand they share all their trade secrets and soon enough they will be out of business, not just out of a market.

Hey, by ChiCom law it’s illegal for and Chinese citizen not to spy or steal for them if they ask it.

Ordinary Chinese are also arrested and placed in forced labor camps, not just the Turkish Uighurs. In some camps, the ordinary Chinese is treated far worse that the Uighurs.

People are expendable to the CCP, doesn’t matter the ethnicity - only the CCP matters.

as far as I know, China is still a one party totalitarian state, guess what? they get to decide unilaterally which groups pose a threat. And let’s be clear, there are many other muslim groups in china who pose no problem to the regime outside of the Uighers, and while there aren’t many christians in china, some groups like Falun gong are considered disruptive. I actually don’t have a problem with any country deciding who they want and don’t want within their system. As long as I’m not forced to live there.

I think the issue for you and me is NOT where we prefer to live, but rather, given what China is doing to the Uighurs and Christians, what our policy attitude should be towards them.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I cannot help but think from whqt you wrote that your policy towards China is similar to that of Joe Biden, which is to treat this (e.g. forcing hundreds of thousands into re-education camps) as simply a cultural thing.

The issue is they see some Uighers and Christians as a threat, because they have a history of organizing against the state.

In no way am I a fan of China, I don’t like totalitarian systems...but they’re not going after ALL muslims or ALL christians. They are going after members of groups who have organized against the states wishes. They would do so with ANY group they found organizing against them, that is what one party systems do.

Joe Biden does not have the capacity to think, his Presidency is just the arm of the statist corporate democratic Party.

RE: no way am I a fan of China, I don’t like totalitarian systems...but they’re not going after ALL muslims or ALL christians. They are going after members of groups who have organized against the states wishes.

So, like the CCP, you are against Christians meeting for worship in houses? You are only for Christians meeting in government controlled and approved churches? Priests and Bishops from the Catholic Church must be approved by their party otherwise they are considered subversives, and the American government should simply respect that as a cultural norm?

Regarding Muslim terrorists, do you honestly believe there are close to a million such individuals in XinJiang who deserve to be uprooted from their homes and forcibly sent to camps?

We in the USA are supposed to say to them- we’re ok with that?

Here is the original study from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute: Uighers for Sale. It is long, but has many interesting photos and graphs. Here's one:
