Tennessee House Majority Leader Representative William Lamberth presented his Lifetime Order of Protection Bill to the House Civil Justice Committee. The bill provides lifetime orders of protection for victims of violent crime from those who committed the crime. Some refer to this as “Nikki’s bill,” given the continued harassment that Nikki Goeser has suffered from her husband’s murderer. Nikki was married for 16 months when her husband Ben was murdered in front of her by her stalker. The murderer/stalker has sent her twisted love letters from prison for many years. Incredibly, this murderer has received good-time early release credits by the Tennessee Department of Corrections even as he wrote these letters. Nikki is fighting for a Lifetime Order of Protection Law in TN. Nikki testifies here in support of the legislation.

Friend had a restraining order against an ex-girlfriend who continued to stalk, harass, vandalize his home and car for a year until he finally shot and killed her.
Nikki’s faith in the legal system is misplaced. I hope she has a backup plan.
Still, this law would provide another screen of legal protection when persistent creeps insist on being ventilated.

The concept of “justice” in the justice system has been completely corrupted. The purposes of the legal system today are:
1) Line the pockets of judges, lawyers, social activist organizations
2) Transfer wealth from one party to another.
3) Destroy targeted individuals financially and emotionally
4) Administer politically determined concepts of equality to specifically advantaged groups, ethnicities, and organizations.
5) Insulate politically determined organizations, groups, and individuals from the full consequences of illegal behavior.
Excellent! They can use that piece of paper as a shield when the axe murderer is swinging one at their heads.
This is unfortunately what victims are left to resort to because the justice system will not keep these dangerous people locked up. This woman is a supporter of 2a rights and she carries a gun. Should she have to defend herself from that man one day, having this type of order on record would likely be a solid defense. It certainly cannot hurt.
Protection orders aren’t worth the paper they are printed on, get a gun if you want protection.
Notice in the video of her testimony that even the democrats voted in favor of this legislation. It was 9 Ayes and ZERO nays. Looks like total bipartisan support on this. Now if the courts could just get it right and keep the stalker/murderer locked up. He should have gotten the death penalty to begin with.

If the most violent crimes came with a no-option death sentence, then this legislation would not be needed. In the case of the woman for whom the bill is being offered, the maniac that walked into the restaurant and gunned down her husband in coldblooded murder should have never been allowed a day of freedom from that moment until he was executed by a firing squad. Problem solved—no additional legislation needed.

Considering many Orders of Protection do NOTHING to stop the criminal from trying to reach the intended victim this bill is also useless.
Victims of stalkers should be issued a handgun and training instead. Or just hang the deranged perp.
