That’s Newfoundland. In New Brunswick they choke herring for some odd reason. ‘Herring Chokers’
I was up in the woods of Quebec many solar orbits ago. They have some great smokehouse whitefish along the roadsides. Smoked, but not sure if they were choked.
“herring choker
An individual of Scandinavian descent. Also applicable to landlocked enclaves of Scandinavian emigrants, such as the entire state of Minnesota, even though these communities no longer choke their herring in the traditional fashion but instead rely on commercial canneries to pre-choke and pickle their fish.”
Funny, as I sit here eating “Fish in a Jar” [Pickled Herring] on pieces of Flat Bread....
Then again, we drink a lot of whiskey and beer!
Building immunity!
Some odd bastards drink Bloody Caesars - pogrom on them :-)
