U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks, a conservative firebrand and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump who has come under fire for remarks he made preceding the attack on the U.S. Capitol, joined the Alabama GOP primary field on Monday to replace Sen. Richard Shelby.
The north Alabama Republican announced his entry into the race at an event with former Trump adviser Stephen Miller. He joins former Trump ambassador Lynda Blanchard in a Republican primary field that is expected to attract a number of other hopefuls.
"America’s status as the greatest nation in world history is at risk. And it’s at risk from those within our country,” Brooks told people packed into a meeting hall of a gun range in the northern city of Huntsville. Later, he added, "We are a beacon of freedom and liberty for the world, and we need to stay that way.”
Miller was an influential force in pushing Trump’s efforts to curb immigration. He engineered the former president’s Muslim travel ban and was widely viewed as the driving force behind the Trump administration’s hardest-line immigration policies.

Really like Mo. Godspeed to him!
Wasn’t he running as a RINO a few years ago?
Going to be a crowded primary.
Just don’t blow it.
‘Firebrand’? Is that the new buzzword that will be used to reel in conservatives?
He should be fine unless Shelby campaigns for the Democrat again.
Mo is a conservative. Zero RINO blood.
I knew Mo, he closed on a house for me in the 80s. He was the Huntsville AL DA for while where his focus was shutting down strip clubs.
However, he seems to be a better than average GOP rep, just not sure he’ll carry Alabama.
Wishing Mo well, but Alabama is setting up for another GOP runoff with a divided vote on our side.
BTW, I genuinely hope Stephen Miller runs for a high office, perhaps POTUS some day.
He’s brilliant and authentic MAGA.
"Did someone call my name?".
No. Brooks has always been a strong conservative. He was not an initial supporter of Trump. He quickly came around to support Trump when he saw that Trump was governing as a conservative.
“‘Firebrand’? Is that the new buzzword that will be used to reel in conservatives?”
You beat me to it, I was to make a remark about that buzzword. I hate the damn thing. It’s really meaningless, made up by mindless journalists to describe mindless politicians like AOC (oops, I just PO’d the AOC lovers crowd)
A more recent one is “take the jab”, more BS buzzwording to get the mindless to take an untested experimental vaccine that’s not a vaccine for a disease that has a 99% survival rate with out taking it. A “vaccine” that’s so good you can still get the disease, transmit the disease, still have to wear a mask and social distance.
Yes, let’s be trendy, join the herd and take the jab because our firebrand politicians say so. (now I just PO’d the vax crowd)
I’d love to see Mo run for Senate and Miller for House.
Brooks would be a huge improvement.
It’s important that we support candidates directly, as opposed to giving to the RINO GOP-E.
Get your own d___ house in order before you stick your opinions in other states’ business. Go Mo!!!
Not a RINO but an anti-Trumper. He has always been conservative so I found that behavior disturbing. But he seems to have come around after seeing how conservative Trump was post 2016 election.
