The Collin County Sheriff's Office has fired seven detention officers involved in the death of 26-year-old Marvin Scott III...

...After being arrested in the parking lot of an Allen, Texas outlet mall for smoking marijuana, police found him "incoherent," according to Scott family attorney, Lee Merritt. Police then took Scott to the Texas Health Presbyterian hospital nearby. There, doctors found him fit for incarceration, WFAA reported.

Once inside the Collin County jail, Scott underwent several mental health episodes...

I'm not digging psychiatric patients being sloughed off onto an incarceration system ill equipped to care for them. Psych patients should go straight to a locked ward where there are lots of nice drugs and very big orderlies.

If there was any question a standard 72 hour psychiatric hold could’ve been placed on the guy. I’m reserving an opinion until more is known.

Terrible and no real way for everyone to know

Good lord... yet another article where they have a quote referring to him as a “gentle giant”. Is some strange disease infecting America’s “gentle giants” causing them to become overcome with violent derangement?

It’s best to avoid the schizophrenia topic...once you figure out 3.5-million Americans have it, there’s not much the police or authorities can do...except just play ‘anything can happen’ game.

Non-possible because pot is never associated with mental health challenges.

Ha yeah. I work in a bail accommodation facility and we get lots of gentle giants - until someone smuggles in some meth or something of the sort. Lots of people here with mental health issues. I would feel sorry for them but I believe most of their issues have been caused by drug taking and not so much the opposite.

If they’d just left him alone to smoke his weed, he’d have been chill. /s

It was the leftwads who shut down the mental hospitals with their locked wards, big orderlies, and medically appropriate drugs, and threw the mentally ill out into the streets to fend for themselves.

Jailers are not psychiatrists, or even psychiatric orderlies.

In this town, there is no place to confine the mentally ill other than the county jail.

Marijuana started it.

Schizophrenia, among other psychoactive effects is part of its game.

diabetics, those allergic to shellfish, pacemaker folks, all kinds of medical risk people wear medical id bracelets.

Maybe the head docs need to encourage disassociative personality disorder people to wear one, too. Or the nonprofits that are soliciting money for ‘the cause’ should hand them out free. That way, ER doctors (and cops) have some sort of clue they’re not just dealing with a stoner on flakka

No doubt. But with legal marijuana sales surging, there’s more of schizophrenia coming, NOT less. I’d expect over the next decade for doubling of cases.

26-year-old Marvin Scott III... here is were they create the narrative. Now include “triggered mental health issues” and we have game!

Liberals always blame Reagan. Very frustrating to know who really is to blame.

From the article:

It’s odd that most of these situations begin with someone breaking the law.

They should pass a law against people breaking the law.

“Marijuana started it.”

False. ‘while marijuana went from being a secret shared by a small community of hepcats and beatniks in the 1940s and ‘50s to a rite of passage for some 70% of youth by the turn of the century, rates of schizophrenia in the U.S. have remained flat, or possibly declined. For as long as it has been tracked, schizophrenia has been found to affect about 1% of the population.’ - http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2005559,00.html
