Sen. Raphael Warnock, who once served as senior pastor at the Atlanta church where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached, deleted a tweet on Easter Sunday after critics blasted him as a “heretic.”
Warnock claimed people are able to “save” themselves through good works.
“The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whether you are Christian or not, through a commitment to helping others we are able to save ourselves,” he said in the now-deleted tweet.
Attorney Jenna Ellis and others pointed out the remarks were "heresy."
“This is a false gospel and heresy. We cannot save ourselves,” she commented. “The absolute truth and only meaning of Easter that matters is the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, and we must accept Him as Lord and Savior. Read Romans, “Reverend” Warnock. You are a false teacher.”
The College Republicans at Georgia State University gave Warnock a refresher from Ephesians 2:8-10: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them[.]”
Others pointed out he attended Union Theological Seminary, which has been criticized as a "bastion of liberal theology."
LOL!
Good luck with saving yourself.
Senator Warnock may have as his first name one of the great Archangels, but from all I have seen and heard he has chosen the way of the fallen ones.
God helps those who help themselves.
There is only one good work that saves and it was done on our behalf by the only one who could do it.
Accepting the gift thereby obtained is still our lookout.
Works aren’t about salvation but about faithfulness and reward.
If he’s representive of black preachers then I understand why the black church is in trouble. Recall he’s supposed to be a minister.
O what an hour and fearful day shall that be,
when the Judge shall sit upon His fearsome throne!
Books will be opened, deeds will be checked,
and the hidden works of darkness will be made public.
Angels speed about, gathering all the nations.
Come, hearken, kings and rulers,
slaves and freemen,
sinners and righteous,
rich men and paupers,
He is coming who is about to judge the whole world;
and who shall bear His countenance,
when angels are at hand to accuse your acts,
your thoughts,
your desires,
be they of day or night?
O what an hour that shall be!
But before the end arrives,
O soul, make haste to cry,
“O God, convert me,
save me as You alone are compassionate.”
—Orthodox Hymn for the Sunday of the Last Judgement
Either Warnock’s never read the Bible, or he read it and completely missed the central point.
Democrats and their heretics
Why is it a surprise that the “Reverend” is,in fact,an atheist?
Like
Politics is the new religion of the left. Take a knee, save yourself. Move the All Star Game, save yourself. Vote for liberal policies, save yourself.
What Warnock tweeted is completely indefensible except perhaps on the Donnie Deutsch show.
He’s an idiot. He’s leading people through a wide gate.
I thought it said Warlock
That is one stupid tweet.
He needs to hear the gospel.
He knows who butters his bread!
