Japan’s China Policy Turns to Confrontation in 2021

Since the start of 2021, significant changes have sprung up in the diplomatic ties between two east Asian countries—Japan and China. Currently, the Japanese government is making a dramatic turn to confront China over a range of issues including the disputed waters in the East and South China Seas, Taiwan, and the human rights situation in Xinjiang and Hong Kong.

Days before Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga visits the United States, Kyodo News Agency published an in-depth article titled “Focus: Japan’s China Strategy Is at Critical Juncture” on its Chinese-language site on April 5, mindful of major changes it is undergoing in coping with its neighbor—the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime.

The report highlighted that Japan could be left in a national crisis in the event of China’s invading Taiwan by force, which could come in the foreseeable future, according to the prediction of top U.S. military officials.

On March 23, the U.S. Navy Adm. John Aquilino, nominee to the U.S. Indo-Pacific commander, estimated that China might decide to launch a military strike against Taiwan sometime before 2045, based on various studies, while testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee.

“My opinion is this problem is much closer to us than most think,” he warned.

However, Adm. Phil Davidson, the current U.S. Indo-Pacific commander, seemed to be more pessimistic.

At a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on March 9, Davidson said that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan could come as soon as within “the next six years,” deeming it necessary to create a network of longer-range, land-based missiles in the Western Pacific to deter China from military action against Taiwan and over the Senkaku islets as well.

Japan has very, very good reason to be afraid...almost as strong a reason as does Taiwan.

The US has been selling weapons grande Pu to Japan for decades.

It is estimated they could put together dozens of good sized nukes in very short order...

...a Chinese invasion of Taiwan could come as soon as within “the next six years"...

Try within the next 6 months.

All of the many nations which clearly saw hope with Trump and his sane and honest policies must now recognize they are on their own.

I am sure it is one of the plans of the Left to piss on honest nations.

Japan has a spankin’ little Navy.

4th largest in the world by tonnage.

4 vstol carriers/assault ships
20 subs
40 DDG/DE/FFG

All modern, major sea combatants. They also have 70 P-3 Orions they keep in the air. Armed with Harpoon missiles and torpedoes. Their ASW is as good as it gets.

It’s all well maintained and it all works. Additionally, they have cultural experience and history in naval warfare...they’re good at it.

It’s good to know that between them and S Korea they can keep the northern Pacific under control if we had to intervene in the south.

And China cannot ignore them.

Meh . . . All the war games with allies providing support to defend Taiwan that are discussed involve doing so with both hands and one foot tied behind their backs. China has 9,000 miles of coastline.

Shanghai’s 24 million residents are 500 miles from Okinawa, which is just a little farther than the 400 miles to Taiwan, but on the way from bases in Japan. Seoul to Beijing is only 600 miles. The likelihood of a conventional counter attack against the mainland is low, but it is not a risk the Chinese can ignore. Hong Kong sure is nice, and might not be Chinese enough yet to be a nuclear tripwire.

“All the war games with allies providing support to defend Taiwan that are discussed involve doing so with both hands and one foot tied behind their backs. “

Correct.

They all assume China takes out all US bases in the Pacific, but never allow US strikes on the Mainland by B-1Bs and cruise missiles.
