WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, 48, was charged with second-degree manslaughter Wednesday in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright. Wright, 20, was killed Sunday during a traffic stop.

If convicted, Potter faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

The news was broken by the Star Tribune, which is reporting that Potter will be represented by attorney Earl Gray.

Potter was charged by the Washington County Attorney's Office after the case was handed over from Hennepin County in order to avoid any conflict of interest.

I don’t support her in anyway, but if she has any survival instinct she’d flee the country like Chauvin should’ve. Either way their lives are over in the USA.

No shocker here. There’ll be more sacrifices as we move forward. On the other hand, how someone with 20+ years on the force can’t distinguish a pistol from a stun gun is beyond me.

“Potter will be represented by attorney Earl Gray.”

Better than Jack Daniels, but still...

If the perp/victim would have complied, he wouldn’t have died. Pretty simple.

They might be overreaching here. Might settle for negligence I figure. Never know though. A lot of times if it’s an ‘on view’ arrest whatever they stick you with is what you get.

She screwed up big time, but doesn’t deserve to be sent to prison. Daunte brought this on himself.

Fleeing, armed perp with a record, and a warrant for his arrest

Vs. mistake using gun instead of taser.

In America, the rules state a tie always goes to the black guy.

Technically it’s not an ‘on view’ since she wasn’t arrested on the spot. But being on camera is just as bad usually.

I think the prosecution has a good chance with this charge.

I’m pro police and I wouldn’t just cut her loose because he resisted. She screwed up and the guy died because of it.

What she did was akin to accidentally running down and killing someone with your car. I feel bad for her, but mistakes that result in someone else’s death usually carry consequences, even if it was an accident.

Is fleeing an officer at a stop still illegal? Or just if the officer’s limit is speaking in a harsh voice to come back?

Also, note the BS yesterday about “we are fully looking into all the details and are not rushing to make any statements or decisions about possible charges”(or words to that effect).

Then “Egads. Did you hear the screaming of that angry mob out there? We’d better offer the cop as a human sacrifice or the station gets burned down with us in it.”

As I said previously in other cases:
Mob leader in 1880s Old West: “You get that varmint in that courtroom in there convicted or we’re going to bust down the doors and take him out and hang him ourselves.”

2021: Now BLM, Antifa and Dems saying it about an accused officer. Considered trendy now.

Yep if they were both lynched on the town square and families given 100 million...it wouldn’t be good enough for the agitators...an unfortunate accident...victim placed both parties in that situation...

Subsection 1 looks like what they are going for. All the other sections have to do with kids or animals, if I’m reading it correctly.

I dunno for sure. All I’ll say if this was in TX, she’d be easily facing double the time.

What she did was akin to accidentally running down and killing someone with your car.

More like: Akin to accidentally putting your car into DRIVE instead of REVERSE and running over someone walking in front of your car.

Result: more people shot by cops.

Given the consequences for such a mistake, fewer will use a taser - leading to more situations getting lethally out of hand, requiring a decidedly lethal response.
