BBC coverage of Prince Philip's funeral services.
Peter Phillips, Princess Anne’s son, is who walked between William and Harry, not Andrew, their uncle. Peter is their first cousin and the Queen’s oldest grandchild.
The hearse was a famed English brand, Land Rover, not an American brand Jeep.
The Duke of Edinburgh title will pass to Prince Edward, the youngest of Prince Philip’s sons, but not until the death of the Queen—not to Prince Andrew, who has been permanently sidelined from “working Royal” status.
Yeah, stay classy.
Why does anyone think that God ordained these freaks to rule over people? People as subjects of their royal highnesses, why haven’t we moved past this charade?
I watched it this morning on Sky News after trying cBS and NBC. First thing on both networks were references to MEagain Markle. Sky News didn’t mention her name once.
I cried several times. At the end of the service I completely broke down and was sobbing. Prince Philip was a remarkable man and he has my respect, much more so than I have for many of the clowns that have been President starting with Woodrow Wilson and ending with Biden.
I’m still watching, they just played “Jerusalem.” That was pretty moving.
Do you think the corrupt aristocracy that rules American called “Congress” is any better?
Carrying on a particularly nasty family trait, are we?
You must be so proud of hating Irish Catholics too.
YUK.
A little bit better, at least they had to run for election.
Most of them have their seats for life. And when you have a government based purely on seniority, rather than ability, it is a recipe for disaster as we are seeing now.
Thanks for posting the link. I admire Queen Elizabeth, she’s served her country with grace and dignity...and still performing her duties at the age of 94! What a sad time for her, losing her husband after 73 years of marriage.
God Save the Queen.
I am sad about the death of Prince Philip. He was a man, who gave up his career aspirations to support his wife in hers. He gave unflinching service to his nation, did not become embroiled in dirt like his son Charles and his grandson Harry, and served his wife with all his heart. We shall not see his like again, not with the lowering of standards in every aspect of life so that the lowest common denominator of people can attain them, instead of striving for excellence.
I Vow to Thee my Country always makes me cry a little. The Duke was a war hero, and a fervent patriot. Although scaled down, he received the honors he deserved. And I didn’t know he was present at the signing of the Instrument of Surrender of Japan. A remarkable life well lived. RIP.
It was a beautiful day. The grounds were amazing. The military presence was reassuring. The music was beautiful. Even the hearse was cool.
I'm glad that England is still capable of putting on a good ceremony for the proper recognition of a great Englishman.
I know people will scoff at the pageantry (even my mom was envious over the attention that was paid to one man), but it's not really about Prince Phillip or the Royal Family. It's about England and the hope that She will once again return to Her former greatness.
Because "we" (especially females) are constitutionally incapable of moving past the Cinderella story. We have seen this time and again, most recently with Princes Diana and the international convulsion that marked her death. Movie after movie exploits this fascination and, in turn, the Royals exploit us-a win-win.
Paradoxically, the more the Royals expose themselves as a rather tawdry family soap opera in preposterous comic opera costumes, the more we become fascinated. We think we know the people, for example, few people on earth can recall a time before Prince Philip was known so he becomes part of our common experience to the point that we think we are sufficiently informed to judge him and his family as we would judge any neighbor. The the faster and farther a royal falls, the more fascinated we become even as we become more judgmental.
This is a propensity of human nature not one exclusive to the British. America convulsed on the death of Diana and my American mother was obsessed with the Prince of Wales and Mrs. Simpson for years afterward.
All of that said, the Royals perform many important societal and psychological functions addressing the needs of their subjects: the sovereign embodies the nation and symbolizes it much us our flag used to our nation to us. It permits politicians to operate without pretending to be superheroes, that is left to the sovereign. So when President Kennedy died, and even before, he was granted demigod status which he did not deserve. I prefer my politicians to be judged on their policies and for their own actual character rather than fictitious virtues contrived by handlers.
The sovereign makes it easier for us to identify real virtue or real flaws in British politicians who are presented more life-sized because the Royals are mythologized.
We see this phenomenon accorded to movie stars. We conservatives ourselves are guilty of elevating John Wayne, for example, to a superhero status which his actual biographical experience in world war II did not earn for him. The fault, if there is one, is not with John Wayne, nor in the stars, but with us.
If Britain did not have a royal family they would have to run out and hire a royal family for the American tourists. It is big business. It answers a patriotic urge which we Americans channel in other forms at home and fixate upon in Britain.
The British are going to be very unhappy when they lose her.
Run time 1:22:40 - up to 1080p streaming.
A somber fitting video...without the beebs leftist bent.
Sky News Australia has better commentary if one needs identfying and background info.
Props are due to the video production director that seamlessly produced the stream using the many fixed video cams, handheld cams from different angles and vantage points with outstanding zooming in for sharp details. All of the still photos used by news services are screenshots from the video.
Was able to spot only 3 camera positions.
Best viewing is the original source on the Royal Family youtube channel without any commentary...1:22:40 long. The utter silence but for the cannon salutes, bell tolling and sounds of the mass band give the sense of being there...worth watching for the reverence shown.
The Royal Family Channel video is what I watched. I didn’t want pundits comments even a little..... And you’re right best out there. But later I watched a few news video’s and was glad I saw the Royals video first.
