A series of attacks on random strangers is putting New Yorkers on edge.
Although assaults were commonplace in the 1980s, a crackdown on the crooks saw crime levels drop making neighborhoods that were previously known as no-go areas, safe to walk around, even at night.
But now, there are fears the city is returning to the bad old days.

New Yorkers got a taste of the ‘good life’ under Rudy and then Bloomberg (20 years total).
They decided they didn’t like it, since it’s considered Fascist to look up felons with dark skin.
...so they decided to go back to business as usual.
The one enjoyment I get out of seeing this, and similar play out in other US cities, is seeing the ‘hipsters’ and big-time real estate tycoons learning thing or two about how elections can affect them.

So true... In reading the victim accounts, a woman says it's nice knowing there were so many nice people who came to her aid after the attack, when she was bloody. So many nice people. But says nothing about there being so many evil people there. A sign it's time to leave.
Ask someone who went to a NY high school with a lot of blacks back in the sixties what it was like. Nothing has changed.
