Wilhelm Reich managed to convince a generation of otherwise intelligent people to sit in little boxes accumulating "Orgone Energy" - a universal cosmic energy that, among other things, was said to enhance orgasm - and ended up getting thrown into prison for selling said boxes. He died there, but Critical Theory is very, very much still with us.
