Radical Democrats Want a Permanent Expansion of Unemployment Benefits
PJ Media ^ | 04/27/2021 | Rick Moran

Forty Democrats sent President Joe Biden a letter asking him to include more generous and long-lasting unemployment benefits in a brand new “anti-poverty” bill that the administration is expected to roll out next week.

The radicals want Biden to propose a massive overhaul of the unemployment insurance system by mandating new federal standards in programs that are now basically run by states. They propose increasing the amount of jobless payments, extending the duration of the weekly benefit, expanding eligibility requirements, and creating a system that would more closely tie the payments to economic conditions.

“The Cares Act’s emergency programs must be extended to support jobless workers for the duration of the current economic downturn, but we must also fix the underlying problems facing our [unemployment insurance] system so that it can provide economic security for all workers,” they wrote in the letter, Wall Street Journal reported. The $2.2 trillion CARES Act was the first COVID-19 aid bill signed by President Donald Trump a year ago.

There is a great need for states to upgrade their unemployment benefits systems. During this last recession, hackers and thieves had a field day collecting on fraudulent claims. Trump also pointed to the need for upgrading state computer systems. Some states like California saw their unemployment claims system collapse.

Wall Street Journal:

Republicans have argued that large payments distort the labor market by offering people more money than they could make at work, and some Democrats have expressed concerns about the proper size of supplemental checks.

The level of the payments was a sticking point in the latest round of aid, with the $400 a week proposed by House Democrats reduced to $300 a week in the Senate.

I have a relative that has been in restaurant management for almost 30 years. He tells me that it is almost impossible to get former employees and new applicants to return to work, or even apply for work due to all the government state, local and federal giveaways.

They say it is ‘permanent’ but after the rest of the world figures out loaning money to America is nuts and our currency is inflated to Zimbabwe levels to pay for in all that ‘permanent’ promise is going to become awfully temporary.

The Commie Rats HATE small business and want to kill them off. This will do it. Small businesses all over my little town have help wanted signs out. The Commie Rats are doing this to them intentionally. . . evil at work.

Eventually, as computers and robots replace more and more jobs, something will have to be done about the billions of people without a means to support themselves. This may just be the next phase in the gradual move to a permanent stipen for most of the unemployable.

Of course, that just leads to an entire population on “welfare”, which is not a good thing. But drug dealers will like it.

Businesses are having a hard of time finding people to hire/work....and then folks wonder why. Purposeful Leftist destruction of America and American society, along with work ethics, etc.

Very serious problem. At least 10% of the current population is unemployable. And automation will constantly make that increase. In addition, there are people who can work but who do not want to work.

The devil makes work for idle hands, and we are going to be surrounded by idle hands.

I really do expect drugs and VR entertainment to become official policy for how the government keeps the growing Underclass under control.

Same with one of our restaurants here in town. Employees got their stimulus checks and now receiving unemployment checks and don’t want to work. The restaurant can’t even open for lunch now because nobody wants to work. If it keeps up they may just close the doors for good.

The sad part is we continue to let these m’fers kill businesses and livelihoods. This WILL come to a head sooner or later.

Hell, in most states you can meke more on unemployment than you can working. Businesses are begging for workers.

Yep. Whenever people talk about the “free money for life” stuff and how great that would be, I like to remind them that we already have that. It’s welfare moms. Who aspires for that lifestyle?

When you live by “stipend”, you are, by definition, at the bottom. The bottom always sucks. Heck, the poor in the US live with more creature comforts and better food than the rich did a century ago. But still, it’s a terrible life, because those things are not what define quality of life. Relationships and a feeling of having value to others is what improves quality of life. Living off your government or even a rich uncle doesn’t cut it.

Yep. And that leads to a rather short life span.

This is part of long-term plan, get otherwise independent Americans on the dole. Make them slaves. Like the DNC has done for American blacks in the inner cities. Slaves.

Why would the Ruling Establishment put up with large numbers of people who are unwilling or unable to work?

They will be exterminated.

The growing unemployable "underclass" will find itself six feet under once the totalitarian revolution is over and done.

Ecologically-minded elites aren't going to let them hang around and foul the air and water.

Yes.

The Biden plan is to destroy all small businesses - Independents, and reward his big business, corporate donors.

Restaurants

Fast Food May Be Your Only Dining Out Option Left, Experts Warn
The pandemic is eliminating a large number of independent restaurants, and chains are ready to take over.

The pandemic has hit the restaurant industry hard, and the dine-in options in your hometown will likely shrink before the dust settles. Because independent restaurants are disappearing at a higher rate than chains, you may also find the quality and diversity of the restaurants which survive to be lacking.

Of the 22,000 restaurants which closed since the start of the pandemic, the overwhelming majority were small businesses with fewer than five locations, according to data reported by The Wall Street Journal. While some 50,000 restaurants close every year as part of the natural ebb and flow of the industry, the National Restaurant Association predicts that number will double this year. (Related: 15 Classic American Desserts That Deserve a Comeback.)

Indeed, many of us have witnessed beloved local haunts go out of business. From small-town icons which reared generations of residents like Ritz Barbecue in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and Cafe Texan in Huntsville, Texas, to nationally renowned Gotham Bar & Grill in New York, independent restaurants have struggled no matter how their rich legacy.

While the pandemic hasn’t been kind to chains like Ruby Tuesday either, these restaurants are better positioned to weather sudden shifts in consumer behavior and live to tell the tale. With reliable financial backing as a key advantage, some chains have even expanded their businesses by capitalizing on vacated real estate in prime locations and attracting new consumers with convenient options amid the backdrop of the pandemic.

Chipotle recently opened its 100th Chipotlane, an innovative drive-thru with digital ordering capabilities. That number represents enormous growth for the chain, which had 10 drive-thru locations in the U.S. in early 2019. Pizza giants Domino’s and Papa John’s will both open new locations after reporting growing sales this year. With lunch and dinner traffic bouncing back, McDonald’s recently unveiled its best September sales in a decade. (But it’s still working to close the competitive gap at breakfast.)

Beyond the drive-thru, chains found growth opportunities in virtual brands, which are restaurants with kitchens but without dining rooms that exist solely as online delivery options. Despite struggles at its brick-and-mortar locations, Chuck E. Cheese grew its virtual restaurant Pasqually’s. Applebee’s, Chili’s, and Smokey Bones all launched virtual wing brands as wings became the new go-to comfort food of 2020.

Due to a lack of funding, less leverage on lease terms, and the tendency for a heavier reliance on dine-in sales over delivery, independent restaurants don’t have the same flexibility in grappling with the pandemic. While independent restaurants will eventually come back, we’re looking at a long, long road to recovery that winds through several fast-food pit stops, according to Restaurant Business.

I see it this way: Where do snap and other free dollars go? They go to wal-mart, McDonalds, etc. i.e. they keep the economy going. In a way these people are necessary to keep the money from the producing people flowing and being taxed every time it changes hands. And these people have a relatively short life span.

So they sort of need them - for now. But when the world goes heavily robotic, there will be few humans needed, and those in existence will need not work, or not work much. Heck, how many jobs, already, are really just make-work? And some pay dearly.

I’m not saying that your prediction won’t happen, but we’d be talking about tens of millions of Useless Eaters being eliminated.

As an aside: part of why I don’t dwell on COVID is because they’ve told me about “overpopulation” for 50 years. We have too many people, you know. And, if does seem like when the Left gains power, they do have a tendency to murder tens of millions of people.

I don’t believe their statistics, but they claim that we’ve had 500,000 COVID deaths. So? Is that a problem for society? It’s certainly a problem for anyone who has lost a loved one. But do we need to destroy our nation’s economy because of a virus with victims measured in the thousands?? I don’t think so.

We’ve abandoned the Constitution, ushered in tyranny and fascism and set the stage, perhaps, for tens of millions of Useless Eaters to be eliminated. And why?? Well, about 500,000 got a virus and died.

Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater ...
