The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up a challenge against Maryland’s ban on bump stocks and similar devices that can make guns fire faster.
The high court on Monday turned away a challenge (pdf) to the ban, which took effect in October 2018. A lower court had dismissed the challenge at an early stage and that decision had been upheld by an appeals court.
As is typical, the Supreme Court did not issue a reason for declining to take up the case.

Several weeks ago, however, the Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit recognized that Congress alone has the ability to define new federal crimes, which the president and federal officials are the ones who enforce those laws.
The Department of Justice issued a 2017 ATF rule “to clarify that [bump stocks] are ‘machineguns’ as defined by the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Gun Control Act of 1968” as these devices “allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.”

Pretty soon the SCOTUS will be out of business! Apparently they’re “above” the law!

I don’t understand the details here. Maryland has a state ban, but there is now also a federal one.
Wouldn’t it be a waste of time to rule on the Maryland law now that the federal one exists?
This is not like Congress where the leaders can refuse to bring bills to the floor. It only takes four justices to agree to take a case. Roberts does not have to be one of those justices. Apparently, they weren’t four justices who wanted to hear it.
the Robert's Court
the Clothespin Court
At some point it’s going to come to a head. He will HAVE to take on a huge case that will take away guns. Then he will see. They will fear what would come. In the mean time the lower level courts will do everything they can to make it easy on him. But things will come to a head. He kicked the van down the road about the election. Not sure how much more slack he has..
If so, then SCOTUS has rejected its purpose and needs to be dissolved along with the union and the states need to become independent again.
Let the balkanization of the once great USA begin in earnest.
When the states start totally nullifying federal law and making enforcement illegal then yes they are going to be out of business.
At this point I think the NRA and other pro gun orgs should take a public stance that they are no longer going to bring ANY second amendment cases to the supreme court but rather moving forward will work to work within individual states on these issues.
That will send a message they are about to lose their power. It only takes one state to nullify all federal gun laws including the NFA and GCA to set the ball rolling. After one state does this several more won't be far behind and the dividing of the country will be in motion. Citizens of the various states will understand the federal government has only the power we allow them to have.
Bump stocks are just gimmicks. We don’t need them.

There is no law.
“Anyone expecting the SC to fully uphold the 2nd Amendment is fooling themselves.”
Forget the courts. The Constitution and 2nd Amendment need to be enforced through jury nullification. It’s up to citizen juries to take a stand if the clowns in black robes fail to perform their sworn duties.
