No. 2 House Republican Backs Elise Stefanik To Replace Liz Cheney
axios.com ^ | 5/5/2021

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) is openly supporting Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) to replace Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as House Republican conference chair, according to a spokesperson.

Why it matters: Scalise's public endorsement of Stefanik marks a new escalation in House Republicans' internal feud over Cheney, who voted to impeach Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and has continued to criticize the former president.

While Stefanik rose to prominence in part due to her defense of Trump during his first impeachment, she only voted in line with the former president's positions 77.7% of the time — compared to Cheney's 92.9%, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Replacing a RINO with a bigger RINO is not necessarily an improvement. Since gender seems to be the deciding factor then surely there are more conservative Republican women in the House to choose from than Stefanik?

The Whip wants her gone, gee, maybe because her continued role makes his job impossible? At this point, McCarthy should be gone too.

Elise has done very well. She destroyed her woke Hollywood backed anti-Second Amendment opponent twice.

Followed that beautiful destruction twice in a row.

77% agreement is a good friend.

A Leftist turd is an eminent danger daily.

Elise is great to replace Liz Cheney. The sooner, the better.

Who to choose?

Do the opposite of whatever CNN, the NY Slimes, and WashPost are suggesting.

So if those leftwing bozos are all saying Liz Cheney should stay, then obviously Elise Stefanik is the correct choice!!

Elise came along late but she was heading in the right direction. She’s also from NY and she’s the best we’re going to do to keep seats in that state. She’s also not a deep-state warmonger like Liz.

DITCH LIZ!!! That’s the message that needs to be sent now.

“Replacing a RINO with a bigger RINO is not necessarily an improvement.”

While I agree we could do better, I really THE MESSAGE this sends to rest of the party...which is that they most anti-Trump Republican is being replaced by the most Pro-Trump Republican, at least when it comes to defending Trump.

I’m willing to give her a shot - at a minimum it will be tough for her to insult us Trump supporters, given her own history of supporting Trump. I also like the idea of a woman like her replacing Cheney, as Cheney would just bitch about how they drove her out to replace her with a man...now she cannot make that claim, at least.

“I live parallel to her district, she is no Rino.”

I don’t know enough about how 538 evaluates people, other than to say that it almost certainly is different from how I would, and how others here would...simply because different people have different priorities.

Northern New York State.

There’s no NYC Congress person who voted nearly 80% in support of President Trump.

Elise Is that friend of President Trump.

I think on the Rino-scale, if you grade Liz Cheney as a ‘9’, then Elise Stefanik is probably a ‘4’. This is probably one of the problems for about quarter of all Republicans in the House...you have a District designed in a way that only a moderate-or-ultra-moderate Republican can win.

On Cheny’s behalf....she only reached her position because of her husband’s status. She was probably a complete Democrat, and no one ever said a word about that (even her husband).

Her district is way upstate - big district that borders Canada with lots of rural and mountain areas. I'm a few miles outside of it. It is not "NY" as you know it here at all. I occasionally drive around and you should have seen it during the election. The Trump support was amazing!

And there are a lot of signs still up!

I submit that there have to be women in the Republican caucus who are just as firm in their support of Trump but with a better voting record that Stefanik has.

I’m willing to give her a shot - at a minimum it will be tough for her to insult us Trump supporters, given her own history of supporting Trump.

Why? What does she bring that a different woman with a more conservative voting record won't? Is this supposed to be some sort of 'big tent' demonstration? That moderate Republicans can rise to positions of power? Is that the message we really want to send?

lise came along late but she was heading in the right direction.

Her voting record says otherwise.

She’s also from NY and she’s the best we’re going to do to keep seats in that state.

Five seats are going from blue states to red states. Take those seats and who cares about New York. It's not like a Republican is going to carry it anyway.

DITCH LIZ!!! That’s the message that needs to be sent now.

I don't disagree that Cheney has to go. What I disagree with is that it's necessary to replace her with a moderate.

If the Repukes are going to play the same gender games as the Dims (and thus HAVE to pick a woman), I would prefer they go with Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Dims put in place the most extreme leftist characters they can find. Repukes look for squishy moderates. I think Stefanik did a credible job in the impeachment hearings, but she is not a reliable conservative.

But a reliable conservative is probably not something the Repuke leadership wants.
