State Republicans introduce bill to eliminate $300 federal unemployment benefits in Wisconsin

Republican lawmakers on Tuesday introduced a bill that would end a $300 per week federal unemployment boost in Wisconsin, which several business groups say is creating a disincentive to work and exacerbates ongoing workforce shortage challenges.

The bill, which Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, and Sen. Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, said could be in committee next week and taken up by the Legislature as early as June, would end Wisconsin's participation in four federal programs aimed at assisting individuals who are unemployed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Supporters of those provisions say they provide much-needed assistance to those who are unable to find work or are reluctant to return to the workforce amid the ongoing pandemic.

"There probably was a time when it made some sense to pay the supplemental benefits," Marklein told reporters Tuesday. "To me, that time has lapsed and the government needs to quit competing with our local employers. We need a reset here."

I had Wisconsin in tier 3 of 4 for holding out. Tier 4 is the big NaziCommie blue states.

Yeah, according to most articles, it’s the fast-food and restaurant industry crying the most about missing workers.

Maybe if they gave 40 hours a week with a fixed schedule and benefits people would actually apply. But the average is 20-24 hours a week, no benefits, and an open availability schedule.

So workers should be lining up to take part-time menial labor jobs?

Guess are opposed to any minimum wage and unemployment benefits?

Bet you really hated the labor reforms in the early 1900s as well?

That’s true, at least in Wisconsin. A lot of the minimum wage jobs don’t offer enough hours, let alone benefits. A lot of them are on badger care and food stamps. The burden goes on the tax payer.

Thanks for the ping! I was out of town today, but heard this on the drive back.

On, Wisconsin! However - Evers (Douche, WI) will probably VETO it, if comes down to it.

He’s so worthless. The ONLY thing saving us - even just a little bit - is our Republican held House and Assembly (Senate.) And that’s not saying much some days!

LIBERATE WISCONSIN! LIBERATE AMERICA!

And that’s the way our Overlords in Madistan and Milwaukeestan LIKE it, Virgil! ;)

I blame a LOT of this on 0bamacare, too. OMG! Try finding workers for a multi-million dollar business when at best, you can give them 32 hours and NO benefits so you can stay under the radar as a whole.

I lived it. It was hell. I worked a LOT of overtime those years - they were already stuck with me...and I could drive a forklift to unload delivery semis. (Always be working on your Skill Set, Kids!)

Can you tell I’m really, really, really REALLY happy to be Retired? :)

If they want to eat, yes.

Guess are opposed to any minimum wage and unemployment benefits?

Enhance your skill set then.

Bet you really hated the labor reforms in the early 1900s as well?

Not relevant to the high-tech and competitive job market today.

Guess your are either blissfully or ignorantly unaware about the COMPLETE and TOTAL domination of the Cheap Indian Labor Express in this high-tech and competitive market?

Rather call Americans unqualified and tell us to skill up?

Are you a shill for NASSCOM or the 99.9% IT recruitment industry run by and dominated by Indians?

And we have some Freepers pushing the same old nonsense that Americans are too stupid and unskilled to compete with foreign labor and Americans deserve these menial labor jobs (see response #11)

Free Traitors like the respondent to #11 deserve to have their job taken by the very Indians or Mexicans they adore so much as “Americans just need to enhance our skills”

Many, many Freepers who are highly skilled in our fields have lost our jobs more than once to Cheap Foreign Indian and Mexican Labor, often forced to train our replacements for any severance pay.

What makes us unqualified? The mere fact we are Americans.
