[Ben] Rhodes: AOC’s Position on Israel ‘the Overton Window Shifting’ – More Vocal Pressure from Left on Israel Than Under Obama

During an interview with NPR released on Friday, former Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes said that there is more vocal pressure from the left on Israel and cited Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) position as an example of “the Overton window shifting before your eyes.”

Rhodes stated, “Look, when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is staking out her position on this, that’s the Overton window shifting before your eyes.”

He also said, “And therefore, it’s going to be harder to just stick to the old line of essentially unquestioning support for the policies of the Israeli government.” And “It’s just simply a fact that there was never this kind of pressure vocally from the left on issues related to Israel during the Obama years.”

Well, he's not wrong, which may be a first for Ben Rhodes.

The "Overton Window" is shifting on just about every culturally sensitive issue. For instance, for the last year, the Left has been publicly articulating a policy of abolishing the police - to literally do away with local law enforcement. They NEVER would have entertained such public dialogue 4-years ago much less eight years ago.

This is what happens when the progressives believe, perhaps correctly, that by hook, by crook or by immigration legal and illegal, they've secured a permanent governing majority and are finally free to say what they really mean. Friends are about to become enemies, both at home and abroad.

What do the Iranians have on Ben Rhodes. I just don’t get the infatuation with fascism.

My favorite Ben Rhodes interview is from election night 2016.

He also wrote up the Green New Deal. He said it was originally intended as a way to change our economy. “it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all... we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing“ — call it green and get all the idiots on board.

Trying to summon sympathy for land that is the mecca of the left and progressivism. Conservatives in Isreal are the slim minority.

2018 Article on how Trump "used" the window to shift the public's focus.

It seems the 'window' may actually be driven by biased focus groups, floating a trial balloon, or even the used of skewed polling, leading to the brilliance of AOC. /sarc

Pull quote:

"But by focusing on Trump and other politicians at both extremes who have taken advantage of a newly permissive political environment, pundits miss the point. Activists on both the right and the left understand Overton’s original concept much more intuitively than the news media: politicians respond to the public’s definition of the window, not the other way around. Conventional wisdom determined that hardline anti-immigration rhetoric and radically redistributive economic policy were non-starters with the American public, but given the opportunity to vote for Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, the American public happily proved conventional wisdom about the Overton window on those issues to be wrong."

I also think what’s happening here is that old-line Democrats who haven’t really represented their constituents in years are getting displaced by younger ones who don’t give a damn about the pet issues of their predecessors. Israel’s representation in the U.S. government was inevitably going to decline as a result. Rep. Eliot Engel (D-Israel) was a perfect case in point. He was a long-time New York political figure and powerful House committee chairman, but that didn’t stop him from getting his ass kicked in his 2020 primary by a young black nitwit in what is now a heavily minority district.

I am old enough to remember when even leftists were disgusted by homosexuality, much less transgenderism.

I think that’s true, too. The so-called ‘Blue Dog’ Dems were all put down 20-years ago and now they’re doing the Old Libs, replacing them with Communists, like AOC.

The media loves to talk about how ‘extreme’ the right has become in the last few years while ignoring the reality the Democrat Party is openly embracing Maoism.

I’m not the most religious person in the world, but I firmly believe if the USA turns away from Israel in the future and cuts aid to them, we will feel God’s wrath...I think we are already seeing it....

We are seeing open and blatant racism from the left and it’s being lauded and taught in school, which will have the predictable results...

We are seeing random attacks on Jews all over the country and in many places of the world...

We are seeing a splitting of our legal system into using it as a political weapon, severe punishment for your political enemies and leniency for your friends....

We are seeing totally corrupt elections which are supported by not only the left but many so called Republicans...

We are seeing the disintegration of the USA and the outcome can’t be good.
