Wisconsin Catholic pastor who preached against Covid-19 vaccine ordered to step down

The pastor of a Roman Catholic parish in Wisconsin who told his congregation to shun the Covid-19 vaccine and preached right-wing politics from the pulpit has been asked to step down by his bishop.

The Rev. James Altman, of the St. James the Less Roman Catholic Church in La Crosse, made the announcement during his sermon at Sunday Mass, calling himself a victim of the “cancel culture.”

“If the left whines, like they do, like a spoiled brat often enough, they succeed in canceling so many voices of truth,” he said. “And now that they are whining like, if I may say it, the pansy babies that they are, to cancel me.”

Altman, whose sermon was posted on YouTube, said Bishop William Callahan of the Diocese of La Crosse asked him to resign Friday and called him “divisive and ineffective.” He said he’s engaged a canon lawyer and intends to fight the bishop’s decision, but that this could be his last sermon as pastor.

“I am no expert on canon law, but understand only that while we are contesting the Bishop’s request — and we are — he could in theory appoint a parish administrator whilst I remain a pastor without duties until the appeal goes through Rome, which can take up to a year or more,” he said.

It is right wing politics to follow gods law, natural law, the teachings of Jesus, the catechism, common decency and common sense to not accept this experimental substance that is created from aborted fetal parts

That is insane.

More from the article:

“Altman has courted controversy in recent years by denouncing the Black Lives Matter movement and making other conspiratorial false claims about climate change and systematic racism and homophobia that are common in right-wing media.

Before the presidential election, he insisted in a video produced and posted on YouTube by a right-wing group that “you cannot be Catholic and a Democrat.”

This guy is a strong speaker of the truth. Something rare in the church today.

The problem now is the American Catholic Church IMO. I haven’t been to Mass since March 2020 when they closed my church for 3 weeks right before Easter to “slow the spread.” Then in June they went to Mass “by appointment only” with 25% occupancy and sign up sheets. I refused to participate in such a ridiculous sham.

The Catholic Church has been pussified and brought to heel by the govt., and they agreed to that! My parish church is finally returning to normalcy next month, at which time I’ll return.

I’m not surprised this priest has been silenced. I hope his flock figures out a way to keep him as their pastor because we need to be reminded of the world’s harsh reality. Life won’t get better in America until the ppl stand up to tyranny like this.

“They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.”

To Bishop William Callahan of the Diocese of La Crosse, we beg that you reconsider. Fr. James Altman is a priest with considerable fortitude to speak about things that are being done wrong, politically and in the Church. He speaks out and many do not like it but he speaks on things that should be said. I pray that you reconsider. The people need to hear him.

“this could be his last sermon as pastor.”

Probably so. Sad. Since 1980 it has become tough for loyal Catholics to become pastors of parishes. Robert Barron became a bishop simply because he was not a loyal Catholic who stands behind Benedict XVI like he should. Oh well. The father from WI has many options and the Lord will take care of the flock.

At least, the author of this article did not accuse Father Altman of beating his wife.

Maybe the bishop of La Crosse needs to read II Chronicles 16. When Asa, king of Judah, had a disease affecting his feet, he consulted doctors. The author of II Chronicles clearly disapproves. So the Bible teaches us not to rely on doctors.

Asa's mother, incidentally, was named Ana (at least that is how the Septuagint spells her name). The first hurricane of the 2021 season will have the name Ana. Named for Asa's mother?

His Pentecost homily, available on YouTube, is classic.
He says he has distributed Holy Communion to 60,000 (I believe) in person since the onset of the panic pandemic -— in disobedience to the hierarchy of the Church, but in Obedience to the vows he took to God in his Ordination Sacrament.
He has tons of new parishioners and his plate collection is way ahead of projections
Guess who is going to come out ahead in this eternal contest!
