Remember when monopolies were bad? LOL.
“Those are OUR monopolies now!”
In a way, yes!
About a year and a half to be exact.
Amazon like Netflix does make their own original shows, why they want to buy MGM don’t know.
back catalog of films
For what it’s worth, it looks like most of the original Bond films recently showed up on tubitv for free (with commercials)
I can see that going away.
Also in the past couple of months they were getting more “classics” from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. And I don’t mean “classics” the way some stream sites use that term for ANY old film. Stalag 17, Some Like It Hot, etc. I don’t recall if that was where I saw Chinatown or The Odd Couple. But those caliber of films to be sure.
No subscription fee and you don’t even have to register to view.
Smaller and consequently, less controllable businesses fell out of favor during this period...very much like how they're falling out of favor here.
As if Hollyweird movies weren’t bad enough. Amazon is out to brainwash your movie watching along with everything else.
Dunno. This is scary to me. They may be old and sclerotic like the auto companies were in the 1950s-1960s, but that didn’t help us did it? It only made us dependent on Japan for cars.
Today, Ford is the smartest of the lot, but Chrysler is basically gone and GM is in the faded glory days. Meanwhile, many Japanese companies set up manufacturing facilities in the US., and if HQ doesn't repatriate those earnings and liquidity, that all stays in the US.
Your point about the transitional suffering and injustices is well-taken. I don't see great societal things emanating from Amazon or FB or Google's market presence, nor am I Pollyanna about the impacts.
I wish it was different, but I'd rather market forces be applied vs the Justice Dept, especially with this guy (the one on the left) in the WH.
The MGM deal was ended years ago. Its called Disny Hollywood now.
I moved out of Florida in 2006. The name change must have happened after that.
They had a 25 year agreement with MGM and it ended. Its been a few years ago now.
AT&T (Warner Media) owns the pre 1986 MGM library.
TCM is owned by AT&T.
