LAKE SAINT LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police in Lake St. Louis are investigating a sign that was posted in the drive-thru lane of a Popeyes restaurant near Highway N and Highway 64/40.
Lt. Pat Doering said investigators are pretty confident that someone other than a Popeyes' employee posted the sign.
The sign said, "Effective 6-1-21 this restaurant is under new management and will reserve the right to refuse service to white people. We apologize for any inconvenience. Signed, general manager, Mason."
Photos of the sign were spreading widely across social media in St. Charles County and beyond. The photos are authentic according to Angela, who saw the same letter when she was in lunch on Monday.
The restaurant was closed on Wednesday, but there was a steady stream of vehicles driving through the drive-thru lane looking for the sign and worried about its potential impact.
"What it does is, it incites more hate," said a woman named Karen, who also asked to withhold her last name.
The manager of the restaurant told News 4 that the restaurant had to close Wednesday because of the backlash over the sign. He said surveillance video confirmed that the person who put up the sign was not an employee.
"That's good for the Popeyes, they didn't do that, but a community you shouldn't do anything like that that's going to stir up more problems," said Kats Berryhill, who came to the restaurant looking for the sign.
Lake St. Louis police said they believe the sign was part of a bad prank. Police checking to see if there's any connection to recent vandalism at the restaurant.

Interesting that they deem this a “prank” and not a hate crime, as it would be if the sign referred to blacks instead.

I dunno, but every grant application i look at from the government says I won’t be served because I am white, in many more words. This Popeyes sign seems real enough, obviously, no one will get the “prank” though. Go back to fact checking the Bee.

Not really. It isn’t considered a prank in todays society and it accomplished its goal: to get notice of a problem of which no side is taking any responsibility for, and got national exposure with it. Outside of inciting disdain, it did absolutely nothing but push an issue into further acts of separation. This doesn’t lead to talks. It leads to barbarity. This is what happens when you allow yourself to be brought to the level of the inhumane. You drop yourself on a lower link of the food chain.

Corporate management should pursue the matter against the person(s) who tarnished their company’s brand.

For example, in this household, we’re just “too white” to buy any Coke products now. It’s become a “black only” soft drink these days.
I fully expect to see certain aisles in Walmart labelled “black only” here in the near future.

...exactly! And this is the direction we’re headed.
Theres a Popeyes near my kids school that I refuse to go to anymore. If you are white they take FOREVER to get you your food. If you are of color, you can dance on in, get your food and be out the door in less than five minutes. This happened 3 times when my son and I stopped for a meal (mom and sister were at school activities). Not coincidence. I believe this is already unofficial policy.
What if it was some white guy’s idea of satire?
There are no hate crimes. Just crimes. Just because the Marxists scream hate crimes doesn’t make it so. If we start calling things hate crimes we’re going down to their level.
